Andrew Neil is set to present a documentary which will explore Boris Johnson’s ‘political fight’ as the pressure mounts for him to resign after ‘partygate’.

The hour-long special, titled Boris Johnson: Has He Run Out of Road?, will air on Channel 4 on January 30, and will feature an appearance from Brexit minister Lord Frost, who resigned from the cabinet in December 2021.

The Scottish journalist, 72, will be speaking to various Conservative MPs to take viewers ‘inside the biggest leadership in crisis the country has faced since the fall of Margaret Thatcher.’

Speaking about the upcoming feature-length, Neil said: ‘It’s the biggest leadership in crisis in three decades and we have a ringside seat.’

Cabinet minister David Davis, will also be in the programme, and he didn’t hold back when he told Mr Johnson ‘in the name of God, go,’ during Prime Minister’s Questions last week.

Channel 4’s Head of news, current affairs and specialist factual and sport Louisa Compton said: ‘With Boris Johnson’s future as UK Prime Minister seemingly hanging on a knife edge – who better to examine how we got here and what could happen next than Britain’s leading political journalist Andrew Neil?’

‘This timely film underlies the channel’s commitment to producing distinctive, thought-provoking and outstanding journalism,’ she added.

Mr Johnson is facing renewed pressure after a leaked email allegedly shows that more than 100 Downing Street staff were invited to a ‘bring your own booze’ party in the Number 10 garden during the first Covid lockdown in May 2020.

Around 40 staff are said to have attended the gathering at that time to eat picnic food and have drinks, including the prime minister and his wife Carrie Johnson, when Brits were banned from meeting more than one other person outdoors.

Sue Gray is the senior civil servant looking into allegations of lockdown parties that took place.

Documentary director Simon Gilchrist described working with Neil, who stepped down as chairman from GB News last year. as a ‘tremendous privilege’

‘It’s not often one gets access to the key players within a political party as it tries to decide whether or not to depose the Prime Minister,’ said Gilchrist.

Boris Johnson: Has He Run Out of Road? will air on January 30 at 7pm on Channel 4.
