*Warning: Contains spoilers for episode 4 of Angela Black*
Angela Black returned for another episode on Sunday night, with the Joanne Froggatt drama getting more and more intriguing.
The plot got murkier and murkier in episode four, as the viewers tried to piece together the truth.
The episode mostly took place in flashback, as Angela struggled to adapt to her new surroundings in the psychiatric institute.
There were also startling revelations from her past revealed – will this change viewers’ perceptions forever?
Here are five questions we have after Sunday night’s episode.
We know what happened at Edgewater – so how did she keep custody of her child?
We’ve been waiting for weeks to discover what happened at Edgewater, and now it’s been revealed, we have so many questions.
Flashback scenes show that after her mother died at the same time her baby stopped crying, she became fixated on the idea a ‘miracle’ had occurred and that her child was in fact an incarnation of jesus.
Scenes showed her taking her child to the swimming pool and suspending his feet on the surface – believing that he would be able to walk across the water.
Thankfully, onlookers managed to intervene before it was too late. But how was she able to keep custody of her child at the time? There’s so much left to discover.
What happened between her and her mum?
Flashback scenes saw her mum attempt to reach out to Angela, telling her that she was terminally ill.
Angela was resistant to her and refused to let her back into her life.
But what happened between them to drive them apart? And to what extent was their relationship manipulated by Olivier, who refused to tell her that she’d been attempting to contact her before they met in person?
Will she be able to see her boys properly again?
The episode also saw Angela granted just four hours a week temporary custody of her two boys, leaving her devastated.
Will Angela be able to prove that she wasn’t imagining the plot with Ed? Or will she be forced to spend more time away from her family?
Viewers will be hoping that she can prove her case over the remaining instalments.
Wait, so does Ed really exist after all?
It’s still the biggest question we have… and we’re even more unsure what to think after episode four.
While episode three seemed to suggest that Angela completely imagined Ed after a book was discovered, written by an Ed Harrison, which featured a plot identical to the one seemingly imagined by Angela.
However, another development at the end of episode four which could change everything.
Angela drew a picture of Ed from memory while inside the institution, which saw him holding a bag featuring a South West Wanderers FC badge.
After doing some research, Angela managed to track down their ground and, sure enough, there he was.
So what does that mean for the rest of the series? Does he really exist? Is he involved in a plot organised by Olivier to make Angela seem unhinged? Or is Angela imagining things all over again? It’s still too early to tell.
Has Olivier masterminded all of this?
It is, of course, the biggest question that needs to be answered – and it’s the central mystery at the heart of the series.
We know just how violent and manipulative he can be, but given Angela’s previous episode at Edgewater, the truth at the moment is hard to tell.
Could this really be an engineered attack on Angela, designed to distance her from him and the boys? Or is Angela’s perceptive warped beyond comprehension?
Believe us, we’ll be back next week as we attempt to understand more.
Angela Black continues on Sunday night at 9pm on ITV.
