Angela Scanlon sobbed as she pondered on her ‘traumatic’ Strictly Come Dancing elimination.
The 39-year-old TV personality and broadcaster departed the ITV dancing competition with professional partner Carlos Gu after competing against Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin in the dance-off last weekend.
Angela informed host Tess Daly she was ‘gutted’ to be leaving the programme shortly after learning she was the ninth celebrity voted off.
And, on tonight’s It Takes Two, the actress fought back tears as she reflected on her ‘amazing’ experience on Strictly.
She sounded solemn when asked whether she thought she ‘went out on a high’ by the presenter, describing Gloria Gaynor’s song I Will Survive as ‘difficult to listen to today’ after receiving the axe.
‘I Will Survive feels a bit like salt in the wound considering we didn’t,’ she said.
Angela burst into tears during a compilation film of the duo’s time on the show, despite Carlos characterising her as “the best student he could ask for.”
When Fleur asked what her favourite routine was, Angela sobbed as she expressed the agony of leaving the competition after a ‘amazing’ experience.
‘There have been a few standout moments which I feel really grateful for,’ she began.
‘In life, as in this glorious madness, you can have a steady ride either middle of the road or quite a smooth journey and I have always felt like those ups and downs are better for you to feel things deeply whether that’s right down there or right up there.
‘The Charleston, week three, top of the leaderboard, took us totally by surprise and it was so joyful and glorious. And the Pasodoble on Halloween which was a bit of a comeback moment to Black Swan felt like really your dance,’ she continued, gripping Carlos’ arm.
‘The Argentine Tango, you know, in Blackpool was, I think possibly for me why it stings so bad to come [be eliminated] a week later, felt like a real -‘ she finished, before breaking down as Carlos hugged her.
He said he was ‘so lucky’ to meet her, and felt their ‘souls have bonded so deeply’ while on the show.
Only five couples remain in the competition, with each of the remaining pairings ready to compete in Musicals Week on Saturday night.
Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday at 7.25pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
