Ant and Dec are facing a furious reaction following this year’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! lineup.
When the ITV reality programme returns to Australia, the Geordie team will be back as presenters, and last week’s roster leak prompted a lot of conversation, with Nigel Farage among those slated to walk into camp.
His apparent booking hasn’t gone over well with many fans, especially given Matt Hancock’s attendance last year, and while if the presenters aren’t in responsible of casting, some believe they still have a role.
Many people are asking Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly to stand firm with show executives.
‘You pair don’t get a pass on this either @antanddec. You have voices. You have power. Shame on you both for not fighting this,’ one person tweeted, while others used the way they mocked Boris Johnson during Covid to accuse them of hypocrisy.
A second fan wrote: ‘All that “Evening Prime Minister” stuff just to have an equally appalling politician on the show 💀’
‘If they stood down what would itv do? They won’t of course, they get paid to much to let conscience rear it’s head,’ added another X user, while someone else admitted: ‘Not even the thought of @Nigel_Farage eating kangaroo bollocks the whole show would make me watch. Ant & Dec have never sunk lower.’
‘Shame on the TV company and Ant & Dec if they are prepared to host this despicable creature. Farage should be nowhere near our screens,’ argued a different fan.
Someone person declared they were done with the programme after 22 seasons because the executives had made the “wrong decision.”
They wrote: ‘I’ve watched every series of this. Love Ant & Dec but I won’t be watching this year. Nigel Farage is a step too far. Wrong decision ITV.’
Farage was spotted leaving Heathrow on Saturday, stopping for a pint at the Queen’s Arms bar before boarding his 24-hour journey to Australia.
Sporting a pink checked jacket with a blue shirt and beige chinos, which he paired with deck shoes for the trip, he also stopped to take photos with fans, in photos published by the Daily Mail.
He was then said to have started his journey in a Singapore Airlines suite cabin, which costs £8,000 for a one-way ticket, whilst prior hopefuls were given a business class seat before beginning the three-week jungle trip.
Farage announced last month that he was genuinely contemplating appearing on the show after being requested for years.
‘Unlike prior years, I am giving it very, very serious consideration,’ he stated on his GB News broadcast.
‘Why? Well you’ve got about 10million young people who watch that programme. These are people who don’t really watch the news or read newspapers, but they still care about the country they live in and their futures, and actually, in many ways, the futures of young people in Britain had been blighted.
‘They haven’t got the same opportunities that their parents and grandparents had and they’d love to look for solutions.’
He went on to say that appearing might give him the chance to ‘connect with that audience’.
