Ant and Dec have revealed that Mariah Carey brought her own dress with her to play a bridesmaid during the wedding episode of Chums on SM:TV Live.
The megastar was just one of the amazing names the Saturday morning kids’ TV show managed to bag over the years and Mariah made sure to put her own stamp on her appearance… of course.
Chums was the Friends-inspired sketch show segment of SM:TV Live, which would feature all of the biggest stars from Jerry Springer to Kylie Minogue making cameos in each episode.
Mariah’s appearance came on the wedding day of Declan Donnelly and Cat Deeley, when the pair finally shared their long-awaited first kiss on Ant and Dec’s very last show.
Sending off the show in style, Cat’s maid of honour was none other than Mariah, who entered the stage carrying Cat’s train, and the amazing anecdote was revealed on The Story of SM:TV Live.
Dec said: ‘It was unbelievable and it’s still quite unbelievable. I still can’t believe she did it, that she turned up and became the bridesmaid.
‘But the thing that is more unbelievable, probably, is that she rang the production office the week before, wanting to know what colour the set was.
‘She was in Virgin Brides in Manchester and she was supplying her own bridesmaid dress for the wedding and she wanted to know what colour the walls were so that the bridesmaid dress would clash with the walls because that would make it funnier.
‘So the series producer took this phone call from Mariah Carey and her people in Virgin Brides in Manchester going “erm… purple?”’
Cat added: ‘So she went with lilac satin, which, as far as I’m concerned, I don’t think suits anybody. I don’t know, I’m yet to be convinced that that suits anybody.
‘And she fully went for it and she fully committed and we were standing behind the door and I was waiting to go in and she dropped to her knees and fluffed up my dress and said: “Sweetie, it’s your wedding day. You’ve got to look beautiful on your wedding day.” And I was like “Mariah…!”’
What a legend!
