Love Island is noted for its strange dialogues, notably about geography and the English language.
Jess Harding made fans cringe in the first Unseen Bits of the 2023 summer series when she decided to introduce a new term to the lexicon… reimbursinating?
Jess had her fellow Islanders in stitches as the meaning of some terms flew completely over her head when conversing with Molly Marsh and Tyrique Hyde.
Tyrique started by asking social media sensation Molly what sort of material she creates.
‘Real chilled, comedy skits, dance videos…’, she told him.
Tyrique’s face lighted up when she stated she created comedy videos, but Jess seemed perplexed.
‘What’s comedy skits?’, she asked.
Molly then added that she’ll playfully reenact her mother doing the wash… But the realisation didn’t completely hit Jess.
‘Reinbur… Rein… Reimbursinating?’, she asked, believing that’s what Molly meant… although, she probably meant ‘recreating’.
‘What?’, asked a baffled Tyrique.
‘You’re reimbursing an action,’ Jess told him.
‘I don’t think that makes sense,’ he said. ‘What are you trying to say?’
Jess then asked for ‘clarification’ and so asked the other guys: ‘Is reimburse a word?’
They then gently informed her that, sure, reimburse is a word… but not in the sense she had used it.
‘Can I reimburse my actions?’, she asked.
‘You can reimburse him a tenner,’ George Fensom explained, ahead of his dumping. ‘You can’t reimburse an argument back.’
Mitchel Taylor, also confused, then asked: ‘How do you not know what reimburse means?’
‘These two didn’t even know it was a word!’, exclaimed Jess, pointing to Tyrique and Molly.
Of course, they were eager to point out that this was not the case.
Twitter users couldn’t stop laughing as they reacted to the embarrassing interaction.
One person tweeted: ‘Was Jess trying to say re-enacting & impersonating? “rEiMbUrSoNaTiNg”, what’s even more funny is neither Tyrique or Molly corrected her cos they kinda thought she might be right!’
‘Jess is so funny! I want her on the show til finals’, another wrote.
Another tweeted: ‘Jess is killing me. She doesn’t know English and that’s the only language she speaks!!’
This wasn’t the first time Jess or Molly had problems with “large words.”
Earlier in the week, none of the girls had any idea what the term “territorial” meant.
Bombshell Whitney Adebayo then attempted to clarify what it meant… by using the precise term.
‘The girls are territorial,’ Whitney began.
Jess replied: ‘What does that mean? I’m not good with big words.’
‘Me neither,’ Molly agreed.
It’s going to be a long series, folks.
Love Island continues tomorrow night at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
