Bafta TV Awards 2021: Who is presenting and will celebrities be attending?

The brightest stars from the world of television will be celebrated at the Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards this evening.

Acclaimed shows including I May Destroy You, Small Axe and The Crown have been recognised with nominations.

There’s also a host of first-time acting nominees, including the likes of Paul Mescal, Weruche Opia and Shaun Parkes.

The ceremony comes after the Bafta Film Awards took place earlier this year in April, followed by the Bafta TV Craft Awards in May.

Here’s everything you need to know.

Who is hosting the Bafta TV Awards?

The event is being hosted this year by comedian Richard Ayoade.

It comes after the actor and comedian presented the ceremony in 2020.

Richard is known for roles in The IT Crowd, Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace and The Mighty Boosh, as well as hosting the shows Gadget Man and Travel Man.

Will celebrities be attending?

Stars of the small screen will be attending the event in person, but there is no public access to the ceremony or the red carpet due to Covid-safe regulations.

A selection of celebrities will be there to hand out the awards.

The likes of Phoebe Dynevor, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Cynthia Erivo, Hugh Grant, Tom Hiddleston, Felicity Jones, David Oyelowo, Jonathan Pryce, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Asim Chaudhry, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and James McAvoy will all be there in person this evening.

A host of stars also made a grand entrance on the red carpet, including Strictly favourites Oti Mabuse and Bill Bailey.

Rose Byrne, Andra Day, Anna Kendrick and Renée Zellweger will be appearing at the ceremony over Zoom from a studio in Los Angeles.

The ceremony will also see Celeste perform the song Hear My Voice from The Trial of the Chicago 7.

The Bafta TV Awards airs tonight at 7pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
