The Great British Bake Off finale airs today, with Dave Friday, Laura Adlington and Peter Sawkins battling it out for the crown.
After some gruelling weeks in the GBBO tent, some dessert disasters and even more technical troubles, Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith are finally ready to name the winner.
Following on from Hermine’s departure last week, all eyes will be on how the trio handle the pressure of the Channel 4 show.
But what do we need to know about finalist Dave?
Who is Dave Friday?
Dave is a 31-year-old security guard from Hampshire, who has soared to fame thanks to his efforts in the tent.
Other than baking, Dave also has a keen interest in cars and DIY, and his beloved dog Yoki – a Japanese hunting dog.
Speaking before he appeared on the show, the star teased: ‘My strengths are the ability to learn from mistakes, take criticism and use it to improve. I am incredibly determined and see the positive in every situation.
‘Weaknesses would be feeling overwhelmed when mess builds up and struggling with some baking jargon. And French words!’
Dave made headlines on his very first week on the show, when he endured a baker’s worst nightmare.
As he walked up to the table to place his pineapple upside down cakes ready for the technical judging, co-star Sura swatted away a fly, and ended up sent his offering flying to the floor.
Elsewhere on the premiere, Dave was tasked with making a cake bust of his idol, and whipped up an edible version of Tom DeLonge’s head.
As you do.
His cake caught the attention of the Blink 182 legend, who shared a photo of it on Instagram, with the caption: ‘When I was younger, and needed the money, I did a few hundred adult films.
‘This looks EXACTLY like me at the time. EXACTLY. #Cake.’
Well, you can’t say fairer than that…
Is Dave married and does he have children?
Dave currently lives with girlfriend Stacey Val, with the couple welcoming their first child together – a son named Ronnie – during lockdown.
The amateur baker confirmed his arrival on social media, sharing a snap of the tot on his Instagram page.
‘The wait is finally over! We’re thrilled to welcome little Ronnie to the world,’ he captioned the first photo of the newborn.
‘So excited to start the next chapter of our lives.’
Great British Bake Off finale airs tonight, at 8pm, on Channel 4.
