Bake Off 2021: Giuseppe crowned as people’s champion ahead of show finale – after Jurgen’s shock exit

Great British Bake Off viewers are wanting Giuseppe Dell’Anno to take the win in next week’s final after a surprise result in the semi-final saw frontrunner Jurgen Krauss eliminated.

Judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith decided the bakers who would make it through to the coveted Bake Off final on Tuesday night.

This meant sadly one more baker had to wave goodbye to the tent after patisserie week, with it marking the end of Jurgen’s brilliant journey.

The result from the penultimate episode was quite unexpected, with Jurgen having been one to watch from the beginning.

But alongside Jurgen, it’s Giuseppe who’s remained most consistent throughout the competition – with many viewers sure he will now steal the crown.

In a Metro.co.uk poll conducted after the show aired its latest episode, the Italian baker led the way by quite the margin, over fellow finalists Chigs Parmer and Crystelle Pereira.

Third place: Crystelle – 20%

Crystelle wowed in pastry week which led to her gaining the Star Baker accolade, after having narrowly missed out on elimination in the quarter-finals.

Announcing the coveted title with her loved ones on the phone, she said: ‘Not good news, you’re not going to see me for another week because I got Star Baker!’

Last week’s episode saw Lizzie sent home instead, with Crystelle saved after the pair were neck and neck.

Although she looks to be the dark horse of the final, we all know how unpredictable the result can be – could she steal the win from behind?

Second place: Chigs – 35%

Chigs has had quite the rise to Bake Off finalist, as the Leicester-based contestant only started baking when the first lockdown began in 2020 and has the least experience out of the three finalists.

He taught himself through watching online videos, so it can’t be denied how impressive it is for him to have made it right to the end of the competition.

Chigs picked up two Star Baker titles in weeks four and eight – but could he manage to keep his calm in the final and take that coveted glass cake stand bake home with him?

First place: Giuseppe – 45%

Picking up nearly half the votes is Giuseppe, who has been pretty much in a two-horse race with Jurgen since the show started in September.

He was inspired by his father, a professional chef, to bake when he was much younger and has always been a fan of homemade bakes using Italian flavours.

Giuseppe’s been crowned Star Baker several times since taking the title on week three’s Bread Week episode of the Channel 4 show, so he’s in a very strong position indeed.

Although it’s sure to be a close result – as all three were given a Hollywood handshake this week – have viewers called the competition correctly?

Great British Bake Off concludes next week at 8pm on Channel 4.
