Piers Morgan has bragged about the viewing figures from Good Morning Britain’s election coverage this morning – but BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker was quick to point out that he’d made a mistake.

Piers posted on Twitter to say that his ITV show had ‘averaged 1.16m viewers’ as the results of the presidential election were coming in yesterday, an increase on its 2016 coverage.

The presenter also claimed that BBC Breakfast was ‘down by 852k viewers’ on its views during the 2016 election. Only, BBC Breakfast didn’t air at all yesterday, and was instead replaced by a BBC News special.

Piers wrote: ’BREAKING: So, ‘[Great Morning Britain’ averaged 1.16m viewers & 27% audience share pts yesterday. That’s UP by 20% & 58% on the 2016 US election.

‘But… [BBC Breakfast] was DOWN by 852k viewers (34%) & 8 share pts (20%) on 2016. Thanks for watching!’

BBC Breakfast presenter Dan quickly responded to the tweet, posting a thumbs up and a crying with laughter emoji, saying: ‘Well done… but we weren’t actually on yesterday.’

It’s the latest spat in the ongoing feud between the breakfast TV hosts. The pair enjoy a rivalry on the competing morning shows, and have locked horns plenty of times in the past.

Recently, the pair clashed over Dan’s BBC Breakfast interview with Matt Hancock over coronavirus testing, with Piers calling the Health Secretary to end his Good Morning Britain boycott to face ‘some proper questions’.

Piers was tweeting after the US Presidential election took place on Tuesday. While the result is yet to be confirmed, Joe Biden looks to be edging closer to a victory over Donald Trump after winning the states of Michigan and Wisconsin on Wednesday.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV. BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
