Victoria Coren Mitchell’s incorrect response on the BBC quiz programme has left just Connect fans perplexed, with many calling her out on social media.
Fans of Victoria, 51,’s BBC Two quiz show watched the first round of the semi-finals on Monday, but one perplexing question sparked outrage online.
The hints referred to characters from the Harry Potter franchise, such as Fleur Delacour and Mad-Eye Moody.
‘Grindelwald is the younger of the two main characters,’ the first hint read, followed by: ‘Fleur Delacour dates Grindelwald.’
‘Mad-Eye Moody is the older of the main characters,’ and ‘Lord Voldermort is the boss of Grindelwald and Mad-Eye Moody,’ the final two stated.
While the teams tired to guess whether the connection was about spin-off films or characters dressed as those named in sitcoms, the actual answer was: ‘Wizarding World actors in In Bruges.’
‘Let’s go through the actors from the Wizarding World, the world of Harry Potter, Fantastic Beasts and so on, do we know who plays Grindelwald?’ Victoria asked.
‘It’s Colin Farrell, Fleur Delacour is Clemence Poésy,’ she went on, before answering: ‘It’s actors who have appeared in In Bruges.’
However, fans were not impressed with Victoria’s answer, pointing out that Colin Farrell did not portray Grindelwald.
‘Nah, #onlyconnect, that Grindelwald question is b******s. Colin Farrell plays a disguised version in one film and has a different character name. Also Grindelwald is so played by Johnny Depp and Mads Mikkelsen. And I’m not even a fan, those films are trash,’ one X user, @architectom89, wrote.
Haha. That’s exactly what I said. Technically Colin Farrell is does not play Grindelwald. It’s Johnny Depp or Mads Michelson. Question is wrong.

Hello #onlyconnect Colin Farrell actually played the character of Lord Percival Graves, who Grindelwald was disguised as. Grindelwald himself was played by Johnny Depp and then later Mads Mikkelsen.
Sorry to call you out in public like this.

The Harry Potter/In Bruges question on #onlyconnect would’ve been clever if Colin Farrell had actually played Grindelwald? But he didn’t

In the 2016 film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, set 70 years before Harry Potter, Farrell portrays Percival Graves while Johnny Depp plays Grindelwald.
Eddie Redmayne’s character New Scamander finally reveals that Graves is Grindelwald in disguise, and the film’s last sequence depicts Farrell gradually morphing into Depp.
Mads Mikkelsen stars as Grindelwald in the sequel Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, replacing Depp.
Meanwhile, Farrell stars as Ray in the 2008 comedy In Bruges, and Mad Eye Moody’s Brendan Cleeson plays Ken Daley.
Ralph Fiennes (who portrays Voldermort) plays the two hitmen’s employer, while Poésy plays Chloe Villette.
You can’t get much past those Potter fans…
