Big blow for Stranger Things fans as it’s confirmed season 4 won’t drop until 2022

Stranger Things fans will have to wait a little longer than expected for season four as it’s confirmed it won’t drop until 2022, three years after season three.

Netflix, please.

The streaming giant did bless us with another teaser however, and the upcoming series looks absolutely immense.

It begins by teasing the return of Dr Martin Brenner (Matthew Modine) in flashbacks, as he’s heard asking: ‘Eleven, are you listening?’

We go on to see the cast in action, with David Harbour’s Jim Hopper shooting at something and Caleb McLaughlin’s Lucas Sinclair putting a slingshot to good use.

That’s all before Gaten Matarazzo’s Dustin Henderson declares: ‘Holy mother of…’ at the return of an absolutely gigantic Demogorgon.

‘Something’s coming,’ Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) warns. ‘It is almost here.’

‘The world has been watching,’ we’re told. ‘In 2022 the global phenomenon returns.’

Fans can’t handle it, especially knowing it’ll be three years after season three premiered in 2019.

‘2022 ??? The 3rd season was in 2019,’ one fan pointed out, with another adding: ‘ok but when in 2022.’

Another summed up everyone’s feelings by declaring: ‘I was not expecting this today.’

Even though details are thin on the ground, thankfully we’ve got some idea of what to expect from season four, with stars Joe Keery, Sadie Sink, Priah Ferguson, Maya Hawke, Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo, Natalia Dyer and Eddie Munson all being pictured on set.

Some of them looked ready for battle as they pulled on army gear – but who could they be fighting against?

The stars were surrounded by crew members and assistants as production on the huge series stepped up, with the action playing out

Meanwhile, Sadie, who plays Max Mayfield in the sci-fi, revealed that season four will be ‘very dark’ and we wouldn’t expect anything less.

‘It’s definitely a really, really dark season,’ she told PA. ‘Each season the production scale gets bigger and bigger and the stakes are really, really high this year, as they are always.

‘But there’s something about this season, it’s really intense.’

Stranger Things seasons one to three are available to stream on Netlix.
