A Big Brother housemate has been chastised for making a ‘racist’ remark to one of her roommates.
The newest season of the reality TV show premiered this week, with a new group of housemates revealed.
Olivia, a 23-year-old Scottish dancer, described herself as ‘the heart and soul of the party’ before entering the home.
However, on Monday night’s broadcast, she was chastised for a statement she made.
Olivia was attempting to teach her other candidates a highland song called Donald’s Trousers to pass the time, but they were difficult to comprehend her heavy accent.
Fellow housemate Kerry, from Essex, declared: ‘I will be honest with you, I don’t recognise one word that you said.’
Then, London born Hallie added: ‘No same, all I got was Donald’s trousers.’
At that point Olivia then pointed to another housemate Yinrun, who was born in China but lives in Harrogate, and said: ‘If you didn’t understand me, she’s going to have no clue what the f*** I just said.’
While Yinrun shrugged it off and said she couldn’t comprehend much of what Olivia was saying, the remark plainly irritated those watching at home.
‘Okay – we’re going to let that racism from Olivia slide. Oh wait, she’s only Asian, doesn’t matter…,’ one person posted on X, formerly Twitter.
‘Did Olivia REALLY just say if you can’t understand me she definitely won’t (then proceed to point at Yinrun!) my f****** jaw is still open! Horrid girl! #racism #BigBrotherUK #getoliviaout,’ someone else shared.
Another added: ‘Casual xenophobia from Olivia. Very on brand.’
While Olivia was on the verge of elimination after Jenkin named her the’most difficult roommate to live with,’ she was rescued by completing her secret mission to avoid being labelled the ‘least entertaining’ by her fellow housemates, and was therefore protected from the public vote.
Big Brother continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
