Bling Empire season 2: Dorothy Wang ‘disappointed’ as unaired scenes of health battles cut from series: ‘That has been a long, deep struggle for me’

Dorothy Wang has opened up about her time on Bling Empire, revealing that there was a lot we didn’t get to see on the series.

Reality TV fans will know that she was a firm fan favorite on Rich Kids of Beverly Hills, before giving the cameras another look at her fabulous lifestyle in season two of the hit Netflix program.

However, chatting to Metro.co.uk about her time alongside Christine Chiu, Kim Lee, Kane Lim and Anna Shay, she shared that she was ‘disappointed’ by what bosses decided to leave on the cutting room floor.

In fact, there was a health journey that the 34-year-old went on that we never got to see.

‘Well, I think in general, a lot was cut out,’ she told us. ‘I think, for me, I actually didn’t film that many so proportion wise, compared to everyone else, a lot of my scenes weren’t cut out. But I’m just used to the Rich Kids – we didn’t have a lot of production issues so we didn’t have a lot of stuff that was cut out in general.

‘I had a lot of my health journey… I’ve been going through a lot of health issues and having a lot of weird allergic reactions and mysterious skin reactions, doctors haven’t been able to figure [it] out.

‘One of my trepidations about appearing on the show was that I just said, “I’m not really feeling my best, I’m not really looking my best. I don’t know if I’m really ready to come back to TV. I have a lot of doctor’s appointments, I have a lot of things that have to do with my health that I’m taking care of right now.” They said, “Oh yeah, we’re gonna follow that.”

‘We filmed a lot of things about my health journey that didn’t really make it. That, to me, was disappointing because I just felt like it would have been a great story to tell and a great story to share. That, in real life, has been a really long and deep struggle for me.’

Dorothy has previously spoken of her issues on social media, sharing glimpses into her doctor’s appointments and the impact that her struggles had on her.

She also has a highlight reel on her Instagram page, titled ‘health things’, in which she delves into her battles.

Speaking about why she wanted those scenes included on the Netflix series, the reality star said she wanted to highlight her issues for viewers going through similar things – and to also give an accurate depiction of their lives.

‘I just felt like it was something that would be great to share, to help other people that are struggling and going through the same thing,’ she continued.

‘It would add a realness and a depth to the show, that it’s not just about being blingy and sassy. We have real struggles and real problems as well. It also affected my viewpoint on a lot of things.

‘There’s a reason why I felt like life is too short to go to lunch with people that you don’t want to be friends with. I just felt like, because I went through all that stuff, it changed my view, and it changed my perspective on a lot of things. It was just a shame.

‘There’s a reason why I maybe wasn’t there a lot, I wasn’t as bubbly, or I didn’t have as much patience, it all adds up for a reason. It is a shame that the full story wasn’t told.

‘I also felt like it was a missed opportunity to spread a little bit of awareness and to just tell a story that maybe could have helped some other people that are also struggling with some sort of chronic health issues that feel they don’t have a cure in sight.’

‘I’m very honest and open, and I just feel like it’s insincere to pretend my life is perfect, and I’m just shopping and going to lunch, and being sassy in cute outfits all day long,’ Dorothy added.

‘I don’t think that that’s an accurate portrayal, and it’s not really a fair image to put out there.

‘No one’s life is perfect and I understand the show is meant to be fun and aspirational, but I think that we should show our struggles and show that not everything is perfect all the time for us either.’

Bling Empire is available to stream on Netflix now.
