Warning: Spoilers ahead!

Better Call Saul fans are still not over the mid-season 6 finale, Plan and Execution, which saw the biggest cliffhanger of the show so far.

The episode marked the end of Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) and Kim Wexler’s (Rhea Seehorn) mission to put a stop to enemy Howard Hamlin (Patrick Fabian), with a brutal cold-blooded murder as Howard was shot in the head by Lalo Salamanca (Tony Dalton) when confronting the Goodmans in their home about their plot to smear his name.

But, as it turns out, some might have been expecting the moment to come, after Bob released a little spoiler in December last year.

Commemorating co-star Patrick’s birthday, Bob shared a behind the scenes picture to Twitter, which fans quickly spotted to show some fake blood on the side of Patrick’s head… as if he had been shot by a bullet in the head.

At the time, viewers spotted the make-up effect and questioned what it meant for the future of Howard, and in yesterday’s episode, it was made clear exactly what was going on.

Bob also reposted the same picture yesterday, after the episode had aired, saying: ‘Masterful Fabian on tonight’s episode. The best of persons, on screen and off. A prince. So kind, so fun. Beautiful acting on display, doesn’t get better.’

He later held his hands up and admitted: ‘Well the truth can be told. I screwed up. I did not know you could see a little bit of make up that told story… my bad.’

So it turns out Bob had actually spoiled the mid-season finale, five months before it even aired.

Fans were pretty forgiving for the mistake though, with one writing: ‘It’s cool, no one was entirely sure anyways,’ while another gracefully penned: ‘Don’t worry! Honestly I was kinda expecting him to have a fall, definitely didn’t saw what happened coming, loved the episode! All of you were amazing in that final scene!’

Other fans were still reeling over the episode, as many were shaken by the brutal scenes at hand, with one declaring: ‘I feel like I just witnessed one of the greatest episodes of a show in TV history.’

Echoing a similar sentiment, another said: ‘I fully understand why Bob Odenkirk had a heart attack filming this season. Christ.’

‘My heart can’t handle all of these emotions. What a phenomenal episode, and a masterful way to end the first half of the season. Can’t wait for July!’ a third said.

Better Call Saul star Patrick has since reflected on the moment he learned about his character’s fate, revealing he was completely unaware until reading the script for the episode.

‘I didn’t know until I read [the script for episode] seven. Rhea texted me and said, “Seven’s dropped. Have you read it yet?” And I was like, “Oh”,’ Fabian revealed.

‘I have to say, as much as it plays out on the screen, on the page it also is very abrupt. There’s that weird finality where you go, “Did I just read what I read?”

He added to Vanity Fair: ‘It’s supposed to linger and have that impact. I bet there’ll be a lot of people screaming at the television.’

Better Call Saul season 6 part 2 arrives July 11 on Netflix.
