Bobby Davro came out about the death of his girlfriend, Vicky Wright, and thanked her for fighting deadly pancreatic illness.
In the aftermath of his late partner’s death on May 3, the 64-year-old comic mused on her and revealed he was battling sadness and suffering ups and downs.
Bobby and his long-term romantic love had been together for 12 years until her unexpected death when he proposed last year.
During an interview with daytime TV personality Lorraine on Monday, he discussed how he was dealing with the loss of his other half.
‘To watch someone suffer from that horrible sickness, it really took it out of me,’ the EastEnders star told Lorraine Kelly.
‘You go through so many different feelings, it’s relief because they’re no longer suffering and then you have that sadness and then you have that anger, then guilt and then sadness – it’s just learning to live with it.
‘You take each day as it comes and positivity!’
He spoke on the show alongside frequent guest Dr Hilary in an attempt to raise awareness and highlight the early indications of the condition so that others may notice them sooner and avoid Wright’s destiny.
‘She had hope, she was strong – my girl, she really went for it and she had hope, but regrettably when it didn’t work, that optimism dissipated,’ Bobby continued.
‘Then you had the psychological effect and the anxiety and it was really tough. I was very proud of the way she fought it.
‘She fought it and was very, very brave,’ Lorraine chimed in, supporting her famous guest as he sat on her sofa.
Bobby wrote a heartfelt tribute to Wright and shared the news with his admirers on Twitter a few weeks after his death.
He wrote in his message at the time: ‘It’s been just over a week since my beautiful @vickywright5459 left this world and its only now I feel strong enough to share my feelings.
‘I want to thank everyone for their support and expressions of love and kindness you have shown me and Vicky’s family and loved ones…
‘To think we will never hear her voice to hear laughter look into her beautiful eyes see her smile to hold her and to kiss her is devastating and so incredibly painful.
‘She will be in my thoughts and in my heart forever. She was my Schluffe and I loved her and always will [sic].’
Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
