Bridgerton family try to guess the identity of mysterious Lady Whistledown in first-look clip

Bridgerton fans have been given a first look at a scene from the upcoming Netflix series, and Lady Whistledown is the name on everyone’s lips.

The series follows Daphne Bridgerton, played by Phoebe Dynevor, the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family as she makes her debut on Regency London’s competitive marriage market.

Although it initially appears she has a wealth of options, her brother begins to rule out her potential suitors, prompting the high society scandal sheet written by the mysterious Lady Whistledown (voiced by Dame Julie ) to cast aspersions on Daphne.

However sparks fly between Daphne and the rebellious Duke of Hastings, played by Rege-Jean Page, and they find themselves engaged in an increasing battle of wits while navigating society’s expectations for their future.

In the teaser clip, the Bridgerton matriarch, Lady Violet Bridgerton is enjoying dinner with all eight of her lovely children and the handsome Duke.

The group can’t help but share their best guesses for who could posing as Lady Whistledown, the mysterious author of a 19th-century tabloid.

The quick-witted series celebrates the timelessness of enduring friendships, families finding their way, and the search for a love that conquers all.

The teaser sees Dame Julie Andrews’ Lady Whistledown get our juices flowing for the tea that’s set to be spilled as she states: ‘You don’t know me dear reader and you never shall. But be forewarned dear reader, I certainly know you… Let it be known, if there is a scandal I shall uncover it and share every last detail’.

Bridgerton premieres on Netflix on Christmas Day.
