Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan has shared a selfie with her co-star Luke Newton ahead of the release of season 2, leaving fans ecstatic over Polin’s reunion.

In the first season of the hit Netflix period drama, Nicola was introduced as Penelope Featherington, who carries a torch for her close friend Colin Bridgerton, played by Luke.

Despite Luke’s affections being elsewhere, as he becomes infatuated by the Featheringtons’ cousin Marina Thompson (Ruby Barker), viewers are undoubtedly hoping Penelope and Colin – aka ‘Polin’ – will eventually end up together in the Regency-set series.

In a move that delighted avid Polin devotees, Nicola posted a picture of herself with Luke behind the scenes, in which she has her arm wrapped around him while beaming from ear to ear.

‘Polin: Year Two,’ she wrote in the caption, alongside a bee emoji – a nod to Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton book series.

Fans immediately swooned over the image, in which Luke is gazing fixedly at the camera with a subtle smile on his face.

‘I CAN’T!!! I JUST CAN’T!!! MY POLIN HEART OMG,’ one person tweeted in response.

‘A fan of these two,’ someone else wrote with a heart-eyed emoji.

‘Polin stans keep winning,’ another fan remarked, while someone else commented: ‘I’m SO excited for their arc.’

While those who have read the book may have some idea of where Penelope and Colin’s relationship may head in the future… we still have a while to wait until Bridgerton returns to our screens for the second season.

Phoebe Dynevor, who plays debutante Daphne Bridgerton in the show, was recently spotted filming on set, dressed elegantly in a white gown and elbow-length gloves.

During an interview, the actor commented on the fact that Regé-Jean Page will not be returning to reprise his role as Simon Bassett, the Duke of Hastings, following the news of his departure from the programme after one season.

Speaking on Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast, she said that she ‘had a bit of a heads up’ that he would not be coming back, acknowledging that ‘it is a spanner’.

‘But again, the show centers around the Bridgertons and there are eight books. I think maybe the fans of the books were more aware of that happening than the fans of the show,’ she added.

The second season of Bridgerton will place greater focus on the eldest sibling in the Bridgerton clan, Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey), as he meets his match with newcomer Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley).

Jonathan and Simone were also recently photographed on set, filming a scene set at the racecourse.

Bridgerton season one is available to watch on Netflix.
