Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan reveals she’s already had costume fittings for season 2

Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan has revealed she’s already had costume fittings for season two… and we can’t wait to see what garish fashion numbers she has in store.

Today, Netflix announced that its highly-acclaimed, raunchy hit series Bridgerton had officially been renewed for season two.

The period drama’s showrunner Chris Van Dusen shared on Today that filming is due to start in London this spring, stating that the cast, which includes Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page, ‘can’t wait to get back to it’.

If the first season of Bridgerton is anything to go by, the show’s second season won’t be lacking in steamy scenes, spectacular scenery and resplendent gowns.

Nicola, who plays fan-favourite Penelope Featherington in the series, has teased that she’s got an idea of the extravagant ensembles her character will be wearing when she returns to our screens.

Following the news of Bridgerton’s confirmed second season, Nicola tweeted: ‘I *may* have already been in costume fittings for Season Two and can guarantee you are absolutely not ready.’

As any dedicated Bridgerton fan will be well-aware, the Featheringtons are known for their brightly-coloured garments, following the lead of their matriarch, Portia Featherington (Polly Walker).

While her mother has a tendency to dress her in yellow and orange, perhaps Penelope will be allowed to explore a different colour palette in the upcoming episodes?

Hinting at the plot of the new season, showrunner Chris said that the narrative will closely follow the eldest Bridgerton brother, Anthony (Jonathan Bailey).

‘We left him at the end of the first season in a bit of a crossroads so I’m looking forward to jumping in and discovering how he fares on the marriage market,’ he said.

‘I know where we’re going, I know we have a bunch of new characters that we’re going to be introducing.’

Chris expressed his belief that Anthony’s relationship arc will be ‘as sweeping and as moving and as beautiful as viewers of the first season have come to expect of the show’.

He added that while Daphne and Simon are now the ‘Duke and Duchess of Hastings’, ‘they will always be Bridgertons and I think they’ll always be a part of the show’.

Cue the Regency-era Ariana Grande-inspired orchestral score!

The first season of Bridgerton is available to watch on Netflix.
