Warning: spoilers ahead for season one of Bridgerton.
Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor has revealed the first scene she filmed on the show, which just so happened to be one of its most racy.
Ever since Bridgerton was released on Netflix on Christmas Day, viewers have been fawning over the chemistry between the elegant Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe) and the charming Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page).
Following their intimate wedding night, the couple are shown making love in multiple locations at Clyvedon Castle, the duke’s extraordinarily grand estate.
Despite being six episodes into the series, one of these scenes was the very first Phoebe filmed on the drama.
‘My first-ever scene was in episode six, where Simon is going down on Daphne,’ the 25-year-old said during a recent interview.
‘And it was so great, because it felt safe and fun: you choreograph it like a stunt, or a dance.’
Speaking to Grazia, Phoebe added that she found the filming process for her sex scenes in Bridgerton significantly different to ones she has previously been a part of.
‘I’ve done sex scenes before that I can’t believe I did: it was only five or six years ago, but it would not be allowed now.’
Phoebe recently expressed her appreciation for the way the sex scenes in Bridgerton are shown from the ‘female gaze’, explaining how at the time the series is set, ‘this aspect was hidden from women and now we are looking at it from the female viewpoint’.
Jonathan Bailey, who plays Daphne’s older brother Anthony Bridgerton on the show, added that their intimacy coordinator Lizzy Talbot worked hard to ensure all the actors involved in sex scenes felt comfortable.
‘Choreographing the scenes was a real process,’ he said. ‘Intimacy coordinators have revolutionized people’s security and safety in the way that you tell these stories, and rightly so.
‘What’s amazing is that you get one-on-one time with the coordinator before you start anything. They ask you about your boundaries and any experiences that you may or may not wish to share with the other actor so you’re empowered as yourself.’
Bridgerton is available to watch on Netflix.
