Bridgerton stars want period drama queen Keira Knightley to join the show: ‘She’d totally fit into the world’

Bridgerton stars have shared which actor they would want to join the Netflix series, and it’s none other than Oscar winner Keira Knightley.

The Bend It Like Beckham star is top of the list for Kate Sharma actor Simone Ashley and Charithra Chandran, who plays her sister Edwina Sharma, as they explained in a clip with their co-stars Nicola Coughlan, Luke Newton and Bessie Carter, who portray Penelope, Colin and Prudence respectively.

‘She’d totally fit into the world of Bridgerton,’ Charithra said in Netflix’s YouTube series Screen Test. ‘We’d love to have her.’

While Simone admitted it would have to be ‘Keira Knightley in Pirates of the Caribbean’, Charithra was sure ‘any Keira Knightley character’ could make the cut.

It’s no surprise they’ve gone for Keira Knightley, the queen of period dramas herself, who has starred in Pride and Prejudice, Atonement, and Anna Karenina to name a few.

Meanwhile, Luke and Nicola agreed on the sassy Edna Mode from The Incredibles, while Bessie said she would like to see ‘someone who really doesn’t fit in.’

Luke said he would love to see Edna open her own ‘rival store’ in Regency-era London.

‘Just imagine her being like, “Darling, you need more necktie,” you know?’ he joked.

If Keira isn’t willing to take them up on the offer, there are plenty of other stars who would love the chance to join the ton.

Star Wars actor John Boyega recently admitted he’d be open to starring in the romantic period drama.

Asked if he’d be up for joining the cast, John at the Create Next Film Project launch (using a Bridgerton-style voice, of course): ‘Oh absolutely!’

He explained: ‘I would, I’m all about versatility. That’s what we were taught especially in drama school, we were taught about roles that wouldn’t necessarily come our way but we were still trained to try and portray it.

‘So yeah definitely, I would love to be in things that are more nuanced. After this period and doing Star Wars and being on quite a strict eight-year contract and being out of that, my man now feels like a football player like, “what team?”

‘I feel like definitely, I have more space for things that are different for sure.’

Bridgerton is available to watch on Netflix.
