Bridgerton’s Regé-Jean Page has spoken about the rumours linking him with the role of James Bond, saying he is ‘glad to be in such wonderful company’.
The 31-year-old actor has risen to prominence with his turn as the Duke of Hastings aka Simon Basset in the Netflix period drama.
His performance has been so impressive that fans are now campaigning for him to replace Daniel Craig as 007, with the odds of Rege stepping into the role slashed as popularity around his Bridgerton performance mounts.
The Bridgerton star addressed the rumours during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
‘I think the internet thinks a lot of things, and that’s one of the more pleasant ones,’ Rege said.
Referring to Bond rumours, he added: ‘I think there might be an element of cultural translation to be done here. Like if you’re a Brit, and you do something of any kind of renown that people regard well, then people start saying the ‘B’ word,’ he said.
Regé-Jean added: ‘I’m very, very glad to have the badge. I’m glad to be in such wonderful company of people who have the badge. But it’s a badge.’
Regé-Jean is the latest star to be thrown into the mix to take over as the famous spy, along with the likes of Idris Elba and Tom Hardy.
The actor previously appeared to pre-empt calls for him to become the next Bond earlier this month, as he posted a tweet fuelling speculation days before the show hit Netflix. He wrote: ‘Regency, royalty. Shaken and stirred,’ in reference to Bond’s martini.
