Production on the festive special resumed earlier this month, with filming reportedly scheduled to take place on December 7, at Hammersmith Apollo.
‘We’re all so excited because this is new for us,’ the 42-year-old told us. ‘Obviously it’s not going to be in the normal, traditional format.
‘But it’s going to be hopefully a celebration of all things Britain’s Got Talent, and all the classic acts that people love, and have loved over the years.
‘We’re also going to be performing as well. There’s going to be lots of different things in there for the audience. Just a really feel good show, which I think is well needed right now.’
We couldn’t agree more.
Simon will be taking a backseat from the show as he continues to recover from surgery in LA – after he broke his back in a horror fall from his bike.
Diversity star Ashley Banjo will be stepping back into his shoes for the special, following his stint on the main show this year.
’It’ll be brilliant,’ Alesha continued. ‘Ashley did really well, and we loved him.
‘He’s doing a great job stepping in for Simon, it’s not easy shoes to fill.’
However, when asked if she could see the dancer could become a permanent member of the team, the singer explained that herself, Amanda, Simon and David Walliams had become ‘a little family’ during their time on the panel.
Which is fair enough.
‘Myself, Amanda, David and Simon, we are a little family,’ she said. ‘We’ve worked together for so long and I personally can’t imagine not doing it with the four of us.
‘Obviously Ashley is a great friend, he’s talented, he’s part of the Britain’s Got Talent family. We love working with him, so it’s a difficult question. I love working with Ashley, but I love Simon so much, he’s a dear friend and he’s so much fun to work with.’
‘Over the last eight years, the four of us have just got this chemistry between us,’ she added. ‘As much as I’ve loved it, obviously, working with Ash because he’s a friend, we all have still missed Simon.
‘Simon has a warmth and a sense of humour and authority about him that we’ve all missed. But this is life, it is what it is, things happen and we’ve all adjusted.
‘Ashley stepped in and been fantastic, the producers have done an incredible job with the fact that we haven’t had a live audience, and the show was thankfully still able to go ahead. So I’m really proud of the whole team. And, you know, bring on the Christmas special.’
Ahead of the Christmas special, Alesha will be having a mini-reunion with Amanda, as they launch Amazon’s Black Friday Live schedule of free workshops, book reading and DJ sessions – with a cocktail masterclass this evening.
The pair will be knocking up an Amalfi Sunset Spritz – with Malfy Gin – and a Glenlivet Caribbean Tartan cocktail, while having a bit of a gossip and a catch-up.
Basically our dream evening.
Alesha was speaking ahead of the ‘Master the drinks trolley with Amanda Holden’ Workshop for Amazon’s Black Friday Live tonight, at 6pm, on Amazon.
