They say talent shows require blood, sweat and tears, and tonight that proved to be true after a Britain’s Got Talent auditionee suffered a head injury after smashing his way through ice on stage.
JD Anderson, ‘The Iceman’, wowed the judges after bending a metal hammer, breaking a wooden bat, and then smashing blocks of ice with his head.
Judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, David Williams and Alesha Dixon were visibly in shock (but also impressed) by the ordeal, while the live audience (and those of us watching at home) were on the edge of their seats as JD made his way through blocks of ice, but he reacted with pride to his injuries at the end of it.
The World Record Holder, who has also appeared on other international talent stages, wowed the audience with his strongman act, but it wasn’t his first time on one of Simon’s shows, as he has previously appeared on Red or Black.
‘That’s unbelievable, you are stronger than the Titanic, aren’t you?’ Simon commented.
David added: ‘Well, you’re very butch dear, aren’t you?! Oh you’re bleeding a bit from your head, are you okay?’
Despite the blood, JD assured: ‘Sweet… I’m fine.’
Alesha said: ‘That looked so much fun, it really did. Honestly, you are a legend. That was great, that was so entertaining. I loved it!’ while Amanda jokingly added: ‘I mean it’s just a scratch isn’t it JD.’
The Iceman replied: ‘I don’t even feel it, I’m just grateful to be here.’
He managed to score a standing ovation from all four judges as well as getting through to the next round, with Simon saying: ‘That was a difficult act to describe to anyone, that was brilliant.’
‘I’m afraid to say no anyway,’ he added.
The Iceman, who holds the Guinness World Record for ‘The most ice blocks broken by a human battering ram’, has appeared on The Daily Show with John Stewart, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, as well as Simon’s Red or Black and America’s Got Talent.
In fact, during season nine of America’s Got Talent, after scoring yeses from Howard Stern, Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie Mandel, JD made it through to the quarterfinals before being eliminated.
He’s also auditioned for France’s Got Talent last year, and was a finalist on Germany’s Got Talent in 2018.
JD’s audition after appearing on other Got Talent stages follows claims that the show is fixed because professionals are auditioning, such as The Greatest Showman singer Loren Allred, who earned Amanda’s Golden Buzzer.
The Iceman isn’t the first (and is unlikely to be the last) Got Talent star to suffer injuries on stage, with former Britain’s Got Talent star Jonathon Goodwin recently sharing an image of himself in a wheelchair, after he was left paralysed following a stunt that went horrifically wrong.
The daredevil, who’s engaged to Sherlock actress Amanda Abbington, suffered life-changing injuries following the accident, which happened when he was rehearsing for America’s Got Talent: Extreme in October 2021.
Jonathan, who rose to fame on the 2019 series of Britain’s Got Talent, was performing a stunt in which he would hang upside down 30 feet in the air between two suspended cars and escape from a straitjacket.
However, the cars were released too early and he was crushed between them as they caught on fire.
He was hospitalised, with his fiancee Amanda, 48, revealing the horrifying extent of his injuries.
‘He fell 30 feet and lost a kidney, broke both shoulder blades, shattered both legs,’ she said.
