Britain’s Got Talent has denied the rumours that Piers Morgan will replace David Walliams in 2022.

It was thought that the controversial journalist would be returning to the show after his contract for Good Morning Britain expired at the end of next year.

However, a BGT spokesperson has since told Metro.co.uk that there have been no conversations had about the future series.

They said: ‘Unsurprisingly, during these times, it won’t come as a shock to the public to hear that no such discussions have taken place regarding BGT 2022.’

Fans of the comedian will be happy to know that the Little Britain star recently signed onto a contract taking him through to next year’s competition.

Rumours started to swirl after a source told The Sun: ‘Britain’s Got Talent is one of the few Saturday night shows which continues to shine and stay relevant.

‘But all shows need refreshing, and Piers will certainly do that. He has been approached by two senior execs and, for his part, has said he would do it if the terms are right.’

They added: ‘He will give the show back its edge and provide those brilliant water cooler moments. He will revitalise the series.’

Piers has often spoken about heading back to the show, after being an original judge in 2007, and just last year said he’d return under two conditions.

The 55-year-old made his requests known when a fan reached out to him on Twitter and asked: ‘Mate how much would it take to get you back on BGT? Get rid of Walliams. I’ll pay.’

‘£5m + use of [Simon] Cowell’s Bentley,’ Piers replied.

He’s also taken a swipe at the talent contest and has claimed that the ratings have dropped ever since he discovered Susan Boyle.

Talking about the Beatles inspired film Yesterday, he said on GMB: ‘I like buskers. There’s something about the original form of finding talent. Walking along and there’s someone just standing there doing something.’

His co-host Susanna Reid said: ‘Since you’ve stopped doing Britain’s Got Talent you got to do it another way.’

To which Piers snapped back: ‘Since I stopped doing it and the ratings halved, do you mean that? 20 million watched the Susan Boyle series and about 8 or 9 million last time.

‘I’m doing the maths and Simon, my fee has gone up to £4 million now and three Ferraris.’

Metro.co.uk has contacted ITV, as well as Piers and David’s reps for further comment.
