Viggo Venn may have won Britain’s Got Talent by a public vote, but some viewers were so dissatisfied with the outcome that they filed complaints with Ofcom.
On Sunday, June 4, the comedian was named the competition’s champion, defeating dancer Lillianna Clifton in second place and magician Cillian O’Connor in third place.
Ofcom acknowledged that the 116 complaints regarding the episode of the ITV show that aired on that day were concerning his triumph.
The Norwegian comic, who performs in a distinctive high-vis jacket, breezed through the second live semi-final on Tuesday, May 30, earning first place in the public vote and a position in the grand finals.
‘I feel really visible right now, thank you so much!’ he exclaimed as he stood on stage with co-hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly after his triumph was revealed.
Some members of the studio audience who were upset with the outcome allegedly booed Viggo.
He was meant to appear on Lorraine Kelly’s ITV chat programme on Tuesday, but he had to cancel due to sickness.
Speaking to her viewers, Lorraine, 63, explained: ‘Viggo was supposed to be joining me in the studio this morning but unfortunately, he’s not feeling too chipper but hopefully, we’ll see him later on.’
His interview was only a day late since he joined the TV host in the studio on Wednesday morning.
Seemingly alluding to the backlash over his win, he said: ‘It’s not my fault that I won, it’s the British public.’
The entertainer added: ‘I was kind of hoping I didn’t win because it would be so embarrassing.’
Viggo’s triumph on Britain’s Got Talent earned him a £250,000 cash award as well as the chance to perform in the Royal Variety Performance later this year.
He won 22% of the entire public vote, whereas Lilliana received 13.1% and Cillian received 11.8%.
In addition to the complaints concerning Viggo’s triumph, Ofcom received 69 complaints about a BGT programme that aired on Tuesday, May 30.
According to Ofcom, the majority of the complaints were regarding a remark made by judge Bruno Tonioli concerning Nathan Pike and Joanne Banham’s routine.
Britain’s Got Talent is available to watch on ITVX.
