Brooklyn Nine-Nine fans have gone into meltdown after realising Charles Boyle is related to Susan Boyle.

Who knew the Boyle family was packed with so much talent?!

If you cast your minds back to season six, episode 15 (aka Return of the King), Charles (Joe Lo Truglio) dropped a huge bombshell about his family tree, in what seemed like a throwaway joke.

Not only is Ryan Phillippe one of his cousins, but so is the Britain’s Got Talent legend.

Lifting the lid on his epic Boyle relatives, he told the baffled squad: ‘My cousin, Susan, didn’t know she could sing until her late forties.’

Side note: SuBo didn’t audition for the show until she was 48.

And some fans on reddit have only just realised the connection.

Sharing a screen grab of the scene, one user wrote: ‘Feel like this amazing joke went over too many people’s head when they first watched it.’

Well, they weren’t wrong, as others flocked to the comments to discuss the news.

‘Oh. My god. I just got it,’ one replied, while another agreed: ‘OOOH I never made this connection, I always assumed it was just another weird Charles-ism.’

Honestly, same.

‘Holy s**t, I literally just got this also. I bet I missed a lot more,’ a follower penned.

‘It’s only fitting that she is basically wearing a beige dress in her audition,’ a viewer joked.

While one user suggested: ‘I kinda want Susan Boyle to cameo on the show now.’

How can we make this happen?

We might be waiting a while for the next series of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, after producers scrapped the episodes they had planned for the upcoming season, in the wake of the police brutality protests.

Terry Crews, who plays Sergeant Terry Jeffords in the sitcom, confirmed that development had restarted, in a bid to include the movement, and a discussion around defunding police.

‘We’ve had a lot of somber talks about it and deep conversations and we hope through this we’re going to make something that will be truly groundbreaking this year,’ he told Access Hollywood.

‘We have an opportunity and we plan to use it in the best way possible.’

‘Our show-runner Dan Goor, they had four episodes all ready to go and they just threw them in the trash.

‘We have to start over. Right now we don’t know which direction it’s going to go in.’
