Catherine Tate has refused to rule out appearing on I’m A Celebrity, despite having a demand related to the Bushtucker trials.
The Doctor Who star, 53, has yet to travel to the jungle for the ITV2 show, which has seen celebrities ranging from Matt Hancock to Katie Price camp out there.
But The Office actress, who is returning to the BBC with new comedy Queen of Oz, hasn’t been scared off by all the creepy crawlies, even if she admits there is one trial she can’t stand.
When asked if she will participate in the long-running reality show, Catherine said, ‘Who knows, who knows!’
She continued to OK: ‘I’m A Celebrity – I’m not saying never, I’m just saying, not now. I could literally do anything in the jungle, you could put me with rats and bury me underground, anything like that – but I couldn’t be eating that old gear they give you.’
I’m a Famous Person I’m A Celebrity South Africa, a spin-off special starring previous campmates Janice Dickinson and Helen Flanagan, just returned to ITV.
Myleene Klass was finally elected Queen of the Jungle, and her £100,000 financial reward was donated to the charity Save The Children UK.
In the meanwhile, Catherine will be seen in the forthcoming film Queen of Oz, which depicts the story of the scandalous, fictitious Princess Georgiana.
In the comedy, the royal family has had enough of Georgie’s recent alcohol-fueled escapades and sends her to Australia to become the country’s queen in the hope that the country would not quit the Commonwealth.
She was recently asked if she looked into someone in particular for the role, and if she thought the release of Queen of Oz was ‘timely’ given the present context.
Catherine claimed that she did not research “any member of the royal family” for the role, and that it is “an totally imaginary fabrication.”
‘It’s a piece of entertainment as well. I’m sure there’s masses of things that for royal protocol wouldn’t happen, but you have to take artistic licence and go, what works for this character? What works for this world that we’ve created?’ she explained.
Catherine also stated that the show’s release date was unintentionally ‘timely.’
She explained: ‘We were supposed to do this originally before Covid, and then of course things got put back, and then events took over that I obviously had no control over and of course it’s landing now.
‘I hope it’s just a springboard into a different kind of show to come on the BBC. I think it’s nice. I think it’s great that the BBC will hold the reins of being in charge of something as incredible as the coronation, but will also go, I guess this is a palate cleanser and it’s comedy.
‘Of course, it very possibly will look considered or something, but it absolutely isn’t.’
I’m A Celebrity is available to stream on ITVX. Queen of Oz starts on Friday June 16 at 9.30pm on BBC One on BBC iPlayer.
