Katherine Ryan has claimed she has not been called back on Celebrity Gogglebox, alleging she is not ‘the proper’ match.
The 40-year-old comic entertains audiences with her podcast, gigs, and regular TV appearances, having served as a television reviewer on the popular Channel 4 show since June 2023 alongside husband Bobby Koostra.
Katherine has since revealed that she was not called back despite sharing screentime with Roman Kemp and Davina McCall.
She said: ‘I loved working with Bobby. I like people getting to know Bobby a little bit more comes out of his shell. He’s really, really funny.
‘I’m not sure that we were the best fit for Celebrity Gogglebox only because we were new and there are so many other families and couples on there, that I don’t think we were on it very much.
‘I loved being on it and I would love to be of more use on it.’
She went on to The Sun: ‘We haven’t been asked back so far, but that’s okay. Like I’m not right for everything. I loved the opportunity because it’s a show that we watch.’
‘But I’m wondering like, how I can be funnier. You know, I’m not going to lie and pretend I didn’t notice that I’m on it for like five seconds.’
She said that she doesn’t believe she’s ‘as hilarious’ as some of the other performers, such as father-son combination Roman and Martin Kemp or Rylan Clark and his mother Linda, but it was still ‘an honour’ to take part.
Mum-of-three Katherine, who has revealed more about her life with Bobby in their new parenting series, has previously stated that she ‘infamously turns very little down’.
‘I love to have this job and I feel very grateful to be able to make people laugh for a living especially when times are very dark, I think if it’s funny then I definitely want to do it,’ she said.
‘They have sort of inquired about Strictly before, not a direct offer, but again, that just takes so much rehearsal time and I haven’t been married long enough to have an affair!’
However, she said that there is one programme she will not be participating in: I’m A Celebrity, following the appearances of Matt Hancock and Nigel Farage in the jungle in recent years.
She said: ‘I’ve seen that show do wonderful things for my friends Vicky Pattinson and Joel Dommett, we really got to see his personality on I’m A Celebrity and I think comedians are great because they have nothing to hide, we’re very candid anyway so you could film us 24 hours a day and I think it’s fine.
‘But I don’t do well with sun, and I don’t think I’d like to eat crazy things and be scared, and I don’t like snakes or spiders.’
Katherine jokingly added: ‘I’m the worst candidate to really be on that show, so I keep having children to make sure I’m not available!’
Talking about the show hosting the likes of Farage and Hancock, Katherine told us: ‘I vehemently am against glorifying people like Matt Hancock and Nigel Farage and reducing them to light entertainment fodder when I think that they’re very dangerous people who have directly hurt lots of families.’
Celebrity Gogglebox is available to watch on Channel 4.
