Things heated up in the Celebrity MasterChef kitchen for a second time this week, as another chef was crowned the winner of the Christmas special.

Tonight, the celebrities facing judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode were Joe Swash, Gemma Collins, Les Dennis, Reverend Richard Coles and Mica Paris.

The five stars were tasked with showcasing their best festive cooking, serving up recipes that would be fit for the Yuletide table.

In the end, it was decided that the Reverend was deserving of the Golden Whisk trophy, much to his delight.

Following initial shock, the musician expressed his joy over his win, saying: ‘I am absolutely delighted, this is wonderful.’

He continued: ‘I think the parish will want to take the whisk in procession around the town where the towns people will come out and fall to their knees and worship the historic and holy golden whisk of MasterChef.’

The Reverend won the title after first taking on the invention test, where he was tasked with recreating and embellishing a Christmas recipe using fried chicken, which is eaten at this time of year in Japan.

Later, his Christmas-themed menu featured a roast partridge with a caramelised pear, cabbage, celeriac, chestnut and lardons with bread sauce, pear gravy and five gold ring potatoes.

He then served up Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh blancmanges topped with honeycomb, pistachio and liquorice crumb.

The judges were full of praise for the radio presenter, with Gregg saying: ‘Reverend Richard Coles worked really hard to bring as much of the Christmas story into his plates of food which was really clever.

‘It was absolutely beautiful cookery with a bit of fun. Every single mouthful just screamed out Christmas.’

John Torode added: ‘A festive feast needs to be fun, it needs to put a smile on your face, it needs to be delicious and Richard did that. It was clever, ambitious, interesting and delicious.’

Earlier this week, former Strictly Come Dancing star Judi Love was declared the first Christmas champion of Celebrity MasterChef.

The Loose Women star had amazed Gregg and John with her Caribbean-inspired meal, which featured a rolled turkey breast stuffed with jerk seasoning, served with parsnip puree, carrots, stuffing, roast potatoes, crispy turkey skin and a cranberry and scotch bonnet chilli jam.

She also served up a Jamaican Christmas black cake with a sorrel sauce and a stout and rum punch ice-cream, in addition to creating a unique style of Brussels sprouts during the invention test.

Channel 5 found itself in hot water ahead of the release of the first Celebrity MasterChef Christmas special, when the channel announced the winner on the news before the episode had aired.

Several viewers were furious by the mishap, with one tweeting: ‘Well thanks, “not” for telling me who’s going to win the programme I’m about to watch on BBC 1!!!!’

Another wrote: ‘Well done @5_News for giving a spoiler, without warning, on the 8pm news today of the winner of Celebrity @MasterChefUK showing later in [the] evening.’

Channel 5 apologised for the blunder, saying in a statement on Twitter: ‘We would like to say sorry for mistakenly announcing the winner of BBC1’s Celebrity Masterchef before it was revealed on the programme tonight. Apologies to all fans of the show.’

Celebrity MasterChef is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
