Celebs Go Dating’s Wayne Lineker defends list of girlfriend demands but is now willing to ‘broaden the age bracket’

Wayne Lineker has defended his controversial ‘girlfriend ad’ that went viral last year, as he continues his quest for love on Celebs Go Dating.

The entrepreneur and brother of football pundit Gary Lineker, placed a long list of demands for an other half on Instagram back in September, baffling readers as he offered a luxury lifestyle to any woman who could meet the criteria.

The list included ‘being prepared to give up their career’ for him, ‘being a worldie above 30 (but 28/29 was fine)’, and ‘being good at geography’.

Appearing on This Morning today, Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield grilled him on his list of requests, and he admitted he was willing to broaden his scope a little after taking the advice of Celebs Go Dating’s relationship experts.

However, Wayne defended the list, blaming past relationships for being so picky.

He said: ‘It is controversial but I tried to take some things from previous relationships.

‘You know the comments about “you must be able to prepare to give up your job or work from a laptop on a tropical beach somewhere?” That’s because my last relationship broke up because she got a new career.

‘She was modeling and she was busy and I was in Ibiza and we just never seen each other, so that’s why that drifted.

‘Everything was taken from previous relationships.’

When Holly asked why the 58-year-old wasn’t willing to date someone his own age, Wayne added: ‘I’ve come to realize that, for me personally, even though there would still be a large age gap, between 30 and 45 would be an ideal age for me now.

‘I couldn’t rule it out [dating someone his age], but I guess everyone has their own attractions, don’t they?’

However, he insists that when he does find someone to date, he’s in it for the long haul and promises to be faithful.

‘Once I’m in a relationship, I’m in a relationship,’ he said. ‘I’ve never cheated on a girl in my life and I’m best friends with all my ex-girlfriends, and wives.

‘So it’s always been parting on good terms.’

Wayne’s efforts in a quest for love will start tonight as Celebs Go Dating returns to Channel 4 – with a brand new format that sees all the participants staying in a fancy mansion.

He’s joined by Curtis Pritchard, Chloe Ferry, Karim Zeroual and Sophie Hermann.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
