Children In Need: Nick Knowles breaks down as he discovers staggering amount raised by DIY SOS

DIY SOS star Nick Knowles was overcome with emotion when he discovered how much money the show has raised for Children In Need this year.

On Friday 13 November, Nick, 58, appeared on BBC Morning Live alongside Gethin Jones and Kym Marsh.

During his interview, the television presenter was informed that BBC Morning Live had the figure of how much DIY SOS had raised for Children In Need throughout the year.

‘You always raise so much money, we’ve actually got the total this year. Did you know that? We’ve got the total hear,’ Gethin said.

Nick said that he hadn’t been aware he was going to find out the amount on the show, saying that his boss told him he’d find out at around lunchtime today.

‘It’s a big deal to us because not only have we built the building but that amount of money goes to help so many,’ he said.

‘We understand times are tough, Covid times are tough, people are worried about their finances – so we expect it not to be as massive as previously.’

But he assumed wrong, as the DIY SOS host was in for a massive shock when Gethin revealed the total amount.

‘Let’s find out, drum roll please… the total for DIY SOS Children In Need this year is £844,044, Nick,’ Gethin said.

Nick looked positively stunned, responding: ‘That can’t be right.’

‘It’s the highest total yet,’ Gethin continued.

‘Mate, you deserve it, you drive that show, I’ve seen what you’re like when you get everyone around you to get them going, all the builders you get involved. You should be really proud of that, Nick.’

Having broken down in tears, an awestruck Nick simply said: ‘Just, how amazing are people.’

Several Twitter users praised Nick and the DIY SOS team for the hard work they put into raising the money for Children In Need.

‘He was so ready for it to be a low amount. I’m happy that they raised a lot and you can see how much it means to Nick. Well done all,’ one person said.

‘@MrNickKnowles Wow my friend…..take a bow! Truly remarkable. You and all @DIYSOS make such a significant difference,’ another added.

You can catch up on today’s BBC’s Morning Live on BBC iPlayer. It continues weekdays at 9.15am on BBC One.
