Warning: spoilers ahead for season three of Cobra Kai.
Cobra Kai star Martin Kove has opened up about his son Jesse Kove’s cameo in the latest series of the Karate Kid reboot, saying that he ‘felt like a million bucks’ watching his son at work.
On January 1, the third season of Cobra Kai was released on Netflix.
Martin, 74, reprised the role of antagonist John Kreese, a character he originally played in The Karate Kid and the 1980s film’s two sequels.
His son Jesse, 30, appears in the new series in a flashback sequence, which shows John being bullied as a high school student at a diner, where he worked in his younger years.
On the day that Jesse shot his scene, Martin recalled being told by the Cobra Kai writers how his son was faring.
‘I walked on set when he was doing a scene at the diner playing with the younger Kreese [played by] Barrett [Carnahan], who was terrific and he looked just like me,’ the actor told EW.
‘As soon as I walked in, the writers are in media village and they’re all watching this scene that Jesse is in because he had an earlier call time than me.
‘They stopped me and said, “Your son is just killing it!” I hadn’t even had a chance to say good morning yet… I felt like a million bucks.’
Jesse, who previously starred in the 2016 film On Wings of Eagles, said that it was ‘such an honour to play in this world that I was brought up around my whole life’.
‘It felt like I was joining this legacy of The Karate Kid universe but it also felt like this dream experience,’ he said.
‘How could I ever be in this universe? And these flashbacks were a perfect vehicle for that. I hope I made my dad proud.’
A fourth season of Cobra Kai has been confirmed by Netflix.
However, it’s not yet known whether there will be any further series afterwards.
