The way of the fist has returned as Cobra Kai season 4 landed on Netflix on December 31, giving Karate Kid fans across the world plenty to celebrate this New Year’s Eve.

The show – which is a spin-off of the teen drama franchise that began way back in 1984 – has been a hit among Netflix users since moving to the streaming service for its third season on January 1 2021.

The show follows the original Karate Kid – Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) – all grown up but still facing grief from his high school bully Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka).

Season 4, however, sees the old foe’s team up to face the corruptible force of Sensei Kreese (Martin Kove) who is threatening to lead a new generation of kids astray with the strike first, strike hard mantra of Cobra Kai karate.

With the new season now taking to the mat, fans will be wondering if there will be more crane kicks to look forward to in a potential fifth season.

So, will there be a season 5 of Cobra Kai?

WIll there be a Cobra Kai season 5?

Good news karate fans, the series isn’t ready for a bodybag quite yet, as a fifth season was confirmed by the show’s Twitter account ahead of the release of season 4.

In fact, the fifth season has already been filmed.

Martin Kove – the veteran actor who plays Kreese – took to Twitter to announce he had wrapped on season 5 on December 19, while co-creator of the show Jon Hurwitz also confirmed the wrap of the Atlanta-based production on his account.

While it is unclear whether season 5 will be the final one – or when it might be released for that matter – Hurwitz previously told Collider that they do have an end in mind for the show.

‘We’ve always had a set end game, as to where the story’s going, but we’ve said from the beginning that we weren’t sure exactly how many seasons it’ll take to get there’ he said.

‘So, we can’t tell you exactly how many seasons we’re going to have, but we know that we’re going to enter each season with enthusiasm and confidence.

‘Eventually, we’ll talk to our friends at Sony and Netflix and say, “We think this is probably around the time we should be winding it down,” and hopefully they’ll give us that time to do it. We’ll see.’

How many episodes of Cobra Kai season 4 are there?

Until there’s a confirmation of season 5’s release date, there is still the matter of season 4 to enjoy.

The new season consists of 10 episodes, all of which became available to stream on Netflix on December 31, 2021.

The official synopsis for the season promises big action as the warring karate dojos of the valley head towards a tournament showdown.

‘Season 4 finds the Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang dojos joining forces to take down Cobra Kai at the All Valley Under 18 Karate Tournament… and whoever loses must hang up their gi,’ it states.

‘As Samantha and Miguel try to maintain the dojo alliance and Robby goes all in at Cobra Kai, the fate of the Valley has never been more precarious. What tricks does Kreese have up his sleeve? Can Daniel and Johnny bury their decades-long hatchet to defeat Kreese? Or will Cobra Kai become the face of karate in the valley?’

Cobra Kai seasons 1-4 are available to stream on Netflix now.
