Coleen Nolan strongly spoke out against making vaccines compulsory for NHS staff after it was confirmed all staff must have their first jab by February 3 to continue in frontline roles.
The latest edition of Loose Women saw the panel begin by discussing the ongoing situation with vaccinations for NHS workers.
Formal warnings of dismissal are due to be issued from next month as more than 80,000 staff remain unvaccinated, with staff having to be fully vaccinated by April 1.
Chatting to host Ruth Langsford, Coleen made it clear she wasn’t happy with the plans.
She said: ‘I’m totally against it, I just don’t feel you have a right to force somebody, it’s their choice, you can’t force someone to inject something into their body you don’t want.
‘I just don’t think we have a right to tell people what to do, it’s just their choice.’
On the other hand, Ruth admitted she was ‘conflicted’ over the plans, adding: ‘I just don’t believe you can force somebody.’
Gloria Hunniford was very much in favour of people getting jabbed up, and said she hoped if she was in hospital, she was being treated by someone who was.
She said: ‘I’m actually all for [the] vax, and if there’s a fourth one I’ll be first in line to have it.
‘Selfishly, if I could choose, if I was having open heart surgery I’d like to think they’d been vaxxed.’
However, all the Loose ladies agreed on the ‘freedom of choice’ element over whether or not people should be ‘forced’ to be jabbed up.
Coleen said: ‘Why can’t we just accept that we all have and we should all continue to have freedom of choice? You have to accept somebody’s choice.’
‘But that’s what we said earlier, it is personal choice, we know that. Each person within that personal choice will have their own ideas about how many other people are vaccinated…’ Gloria reminded her.
Kéllé Bryan worried the idea of cutting sick pay for unvaccinated staff would ‘push people down a road’ of potentially lying.
She commented: ‘I think, if it’s going to affect your pay, are you going to lie?’
‘What about when you’ve been vaccinated, you can still get Covid then,’ Coleen added, with Gloria noting: ‘Not as badly.’
The Nolans star went on to tell viewers she was ‘bored’ of the ongoing situation after Ruth told her to ‘watch this space’ over the situation.
She told the panel: ‘I can’t be bothered watching this space, I’m bored. Covid up to here!’
‘If that’s how you feel, I will move on especially for you,’ Ruth concluded.
Protesters came out at the weekend to campaign against the government’s mandatory vaccine policy across the UK.
However, a high number of NHS staff are already vaccinated, with 94.3% of NHS trust health care workers having taken up their first dose, with 91.5% having had their second up until December 31, 2021.
Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
