Dakota Johnson has made it clear she finds the reaction to her iconic 2019 Ellen DeGeneres interview amusing after Drew Barrymore brought up the chat in a new interview.
Dakota appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show on Thursday to promote her new film, The Lost Daughter, when her famous interaction with Ellen became a topic of conversation.
For those who don’t remember, Dakota hit back at Ellen after the comedian claimed that she had not been invited to the Fifty Shades of Grey star’s birthday party.
‘Actually, no. That’s not the truth, Ellen,’ Dakota insisted, reminding Ellen and her producers that he had been invited but chose not to attend.
Instead, Ellen had been rubbing shoulders with former President George Bush – which she received huge backlash for from the LGBT+ community.
Many people point to Dakota and Ellen’s exchange as the first moment audiences began to question Ellen’s ‘Be Kind’ persona, with claims about a toxic workplace environment making headlines months later.
Thursday saw Drew make reference to the fallout from Dakota and Ellen’s chat during a segment on her show about neighbors.
The Susipiria actress claimed she had ‘great’ neighbors in Jimmy Kimmel and wife Molly McNearney before joking that they ‘have a lot of parties and they don’t invite me.’
Charlie’s Angels star Drew then make a cheeky joke about the famous Ellen interview as she responded: ‘Is this for real? Because, you know, people have gotten in trouble for claiming not being invited to your parties.’
Dakota laughed out loud as Drew continued: ‘That was amazing, by the way. Like, amazing.’
It appears the studio audience agreed as well as they burst into cheers and applause.
Following the fallout from the toxic workplace claims, The Ellen DeGeneres Show is coming to an end after its current 19th season.
The Drew Barrymore Show airs weekdays in the US.
