he as she branded him a ‘misogynistic p***k’ during a chat on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories.
The 88-year-old actress opened up about their off-screen feud and revealed why she didn’t like John – who died aged 92 in 2010 – as she claimed he always had to be ‘front and centre’.
Dame Joan – who also delivered some sass when Piers asked about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – played Alexis Colby on the classic show, while her co-star played her character’s ex-husband Blake Carrington.
Asked about their rivalry during, she told Piers: ‘True. I didn’t like him because he was a misogynistic p***k.’
The veteran actress – who joined the show earning $15,000 an episode – claimed she campaigned to get a higher wage because her co-star had to get at least ‘$5,000 more’, while appearing ‘front and centre’ in publicity material.
She added: ‘He was getting more like 25 or $30,000.
‘He also had it in his contract that he always had to have $5,000 an episode more than anybody else in the cast, and that in any publicity that went out about the show, he always had to be front and centre.
‘They were so misogynistic they allowed this to happen.’
At her peak on Dynasty, Dame Joan earned six figures for each episode, but the high payday meant she was used less.
She explained: ‘At my peak, it was $120,000 an episode. However that came with a caveat that they’d only put me in half the episodes as they couldn’t afford to pay me.’

And looking back now, the star admitted she is proud of her performances on the series and thinks she should have had an even higher wage.
‘In lockdown I started watching old Dynasty episodes, and I was impressed by myself,’ she said. ‘Quite frankly I think I should have got more [money].’
Dame Joan has weighed in on behind the scenes ‘resentment’ in the past, and admitted at the time she denied any suggestion.
Back in 2019, she told Attitude: ‘I’ve been asked this question a million times, and when I was doing it, I would poo-poo it. I’d say, “Oh, no, no!”
‘But yes. There was [a lot of resentment]. And now I know there was because many people have come back to me who were around at that time and said, “They bloody hated you, Joan!”
”First of all, the fact that I was English, some didn’t like that. This English woman comes in and saves the show. This is what the media said, because the show was about to be cancelled.
‘Even now, when we get together for Dynasty reunions as we did a few years ago, I see an antipathy towards me.’
Piers Morgan’s Life Stories continues next Saturday at 9pm on ITV.
