When Susanna Reid sought to get Dame Joan Collins to reveal some political views, she refused.
When Dame Joan was interviewed on Good Morning Britain about her new book, Behind the Shoulder Pads, Susanna took advantage of the chance to question the 90-year-old.
‘Before we talk to the government, by the way, Dame Joan Collins, what do you make of the status of the nation?’ remarked Susanna, 52.
Susanna, who subsequently questioned Tory minister Chris Philp, answered with a terse “not a lot.”
The iconic actor then explained why she would not be responding in further detail.
‘I’m not into politics,’ she began.

‘Well, I am but only with my friends.’
‘Anything to do with politics I don’t put in the book,’ she added.
Susanna then praised Dame Joan’s choice, calling her “very, very wise.”
Fortunately, Dame Joan’s distinguished career was on the table. During the interview, she revealed that it ‘hasn’t always been easy,’ recalling how things were different when she first started. She stated that actors and producers ‘expected’ to be able to sleep with leading actresses.
She also claimed that she still wishes she could have played Cleopatra after losing out to Elizabeth Taylor in a series of tryouts.
She did, however, add, ‘She was the biggest star in the world, so I understood.’
On the plus side, Dame Joan told hosts Susanna and Richard Madeley, 67, that she’s ‘always gotten the nicest tables at restaurants’.
Dame Joan also paid homage to David McCallum, who died yesterday at the age of 90, calling him a ‘wonderful actor’ and a’such a beautiful man’.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
