Dan Walker has topped the BBC Breakfast stars’ salaries as the BBC’s annual report was released today (July 6).
While Gary Lineker remains the broadcaster’s top earner despite requesting a £400,000 pay cut, Dan was shown to earn more than his BBC Breakfast colleagues Louise Minchin, Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt.
Dan, however, did also host Football Focus until he quit earlier this year and was replaced by Alex Scott.
In the annual BBC salary report, which publishes salaries of all BBC stars earning more than £150,000, Dan was revealed to have earned £295,000 over the last 12 months, with Naga £40,000 behind at £255,000 after taking over Emma Barnett’s Radio 5 Live show.
Both presenters saw their pay increase, with Dan earning £35,000 more in 2020/21 than the previous 12 months, and Naga an extra £60,000.
Charlie Stayt and Louise Minchin – who announced she was leaving BBC Breakfast after 20 years – earned £190,000 and £185,000 each respectively.

Director general Tim Davie said: ‘We have reduced spending on our top stars by 10%. And I should say here that some of the changes won’t yet have fed through in the numbers in the report.
‘Zoe Ball, for example, requested a pay cut when she agreed her new deal, and that full reduction of 28% isn’t yet fully reflected in the figures published today.’
He added: ‘But we have to keep challenging ourselves to go further to make sure the BBC is trusted, relevant, and indispensable.’
