Dancing On Ice’s Brendan Cole seriously impressed the judges tonight, earning himself 10s across the board and a spot at the top of the leaderboard.
Christopher Dean, Jayne Torvill, Ashley Banjo, and Oti Mabuse were bowled over by the former Strictly Come Dancing star’s routine with professional skater Vanessa Bauer and hailed it ‘effortless’.
Brendan and Vanessa incorporated an umbrella into the routine for the show’s prop week, which also featured ambitious dance moves including a ‘death spiral’ and a trio of rotating lifts.
Oti said she was so emotional after the performance, adding: ‘For weeks I’ve been saying I want more and I know you. That was the performance I was talking about.
‘I’m very dramatic so I love the drama but there was storytelling. It was technical and the two of you just made it look effortless.’
The remarkable scores come one week after Brendan achieved his first 10 of the series with temporary partner Brendyn Hatfield, who stepped in for Vanessa as she tested positive for Covid.
He received a total of 47 following their performance to Beggin’ from Jersey Boys, with guest judge Dame Arlene Phillips saying they had ‘hit perfection’.
Head judge Jayne added: ‘I just loved it, Brendan you looked so comfortable out there, you made the skating look easy.’
Elsewhere on this evening’s show, Kimberly Wyatt was awarded her first 10 of the series.
The Pussycat Doll and her partner Mark Hanretty seriously impressed judge Christopher with her performance to Adele’s Easy On Me, dancing with a silk scarf for props week.
‘It was seamlessly put together,’ he said of the routine. ‘It’s a very difficult prop to entwine it, make it work, and yet still skate out, put all the highlights into it and the emotion and yet it seemed a part of you.’
Dancing On Ice airs Sundays at 6.30pm on ITV.
