Dancing On Ice’s Ria Hebden became the first contestant to land the dreaded skate-off, and some fans were left a little shocked over the result.

The 39-year-old TV presenter and her professional partner Łukasz Różycki, skated to Harry Styles’ Treat People With Kindness, and judges Ashley Banjo, Oti Mabuse, Jayne Torvill, and Christopher Dean scored their routine 24.5 out of 40.

However, it wasn’t enough for them to stay safe as Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield revealed that the pair will be back on the ice in next week’s skate-off.

Fans at home were divided over the news as Happy Mondays star Bez sailed through to movie week instead – despite his skate only earning 12.5 points.

The musician, who is partnered with Angela Eagan, certainly brought in the laughs as he rocked a watermelon crash helmet during his performance, but a number of viewers took to Twitter to express their thoughts over the public vote.

One person wrote: ‘How can the public vote Ria over Bez, there was no comparison. Ria put on an excellent performance considering it was week one was of someone in week 4 so please vote sensibly I did [sic].’

While another tweeted: ‘Bez getting through and not Ria what an absolute joke. These competitions always end up being popularity contests #DancingOnIce.

Not everyone shared the same opinion, and some even branded the star’s performance pure ‘entertainment.’

One tweeted: ‘The maracas, the song, the poor dancing, the watermelon dancers on ice, Shaun Ryder shouting in the audience and the crash helmet! I absolutely loved it!!’

Celebrities Brendan Cole, Sally Dynevor, Kye Whyte, and Kimberly Wyatt also took to the ice in Sunday’s highly-anticipated show.

Ben Foden, Rachel Stevens, Liberty Poole, Connor Ball, Regan Gascoigne and Stef Reid will be getting their skates on next week.

Dancing On Ice returns on Sunday at 6:30pm on ITV.
