Dancing On Ice: Blasted as ‘irresponsible’ as celebs head to hospital with injuries amid pandemic

Dancing on Ice viewers returned to our screens last night, bringing back one of ITV’s most popular shows with arguably the strongest line-up to date – but not everyone was happy.

Viewers have hit out at the show for overwhelming the NHS after a string of injuries left celebrities seeking emergency medical care.

Sunday night’s programme showed how celebs and professional dancers alike have been rushed to A&E over recent weeks as preparations for the competition got underway.

Yebin Mok was admitted to hospital when former Olympic skier Graham Bell fell over and cut her leg, resulting in a horror injury.

Denise Van Outen also dislocated her shoulder while rehearsing with professional partner Matt Evers. Denise was able to perform on Sunday’s show despite the injury.

Finally, Rebekah Vardy inadvertently cut her partner Andy Buchanan’s face with her ice skate while rehearsing their routine.

The long list of injuries caused some viewers to hit out at the show, branding it ‘irresponsible’ on social media.

One Twitter user wrote: ‘Just watched first episode of Dancing On Ice. Two people had to go to A and E because of skating accidents. Our NHS is pushed to capacity at the moment. Surely skating isn’t essential just now! #dancingonice’

Another said: ‘Is the additional strain #dancingonice has put on the NHS really necessary during a pandemic when NHS is stretched to its limit? Half of the contestants having ambulances and visits to A&E!’

Meanwhile, Rufus Hound has clapped back at people ‘getting cross’ about him slating the government during last night’s Dancing On Ice launch.

Dancing On Ice continues on Sunday at 6pm on ITV
