Dancing On Ice: Who is Amy Tinkler, Denise Van Outen’s replacement?

Dancing On Ice’s Denise Van Outen has been forced to pull out from the 2021 series after sustaining an injury to her shoulder.

The actress was ‘gutted’ to announce her departure from the ITV competition show with her professional partner Matt Evers, but is having to recuperate after sustaining three bone fractures and a partial discloation.

Bosses have already confirmed that Amy Tinkler will take Denise’s place in the series and she will be joining the celebrity line-up.

Here’s everything you need to know about Amy.

Who is Amy Tinkler?

Amy Tinkler is a retired British artistic gymnast and Olympic medal winner.

The 21-year-old, who is originally from County Durham, began her professional career in 2013 when she was just 14.

In March 2015, she made her senior debut at the English National Championships where she became the new senior all-around champion.

One year later, it was announced that Amy had been selected as a member of the British team at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Ro.

She was the youngest member of Team GB at just 16-years-old and became the second British woman, after Beth Tweddle, to win a gymnastics medal in Olympics history, taking home the bronze.

In 2018, Amy pulled out from the Birmingham World Cup after tearing ligaments in her ankle and later withdrew from the Commonwealth Games.

Amy announced her retirement from gymnastics last January and cited her ‘experiences as a club and elite gymnast’ as the reason behind her departure from the sport.

She highlighted that her exit wasn’t down to ‘physical injury as was suggested by some at the time’.

Amy is ‘super excited’ to join the Dancing On Ice line-up with  her pro-skater partner Joe Johnson.

‘For the past 3 months Joe and I have been working super hard as the reserve team for @dancingonice and we’re super excited to say we will be in the show on Sunday!’ she wrote on Instagram.

‘We want to wish @vanouten_denise a very speedy recovery, you have been so kind to us and we wish you all the best❤️

‘I can’t wait to show you all what we can do! Thank you Joe for being the most amazing partner, you’re the best! Lots of love ?’

Dancing On Ice continues on Sunday at 6pm on ITV.
