Dancing on Ice star Brendan Cole will be performing with a different partner this evening after his professional partner Vanessa Bauer tested positive for Covid-19.

Following Liberty Poole’s exit, the eight remaining celebrities will be delivering some new routines inspired by the best and most cherished musicals of all time.

However, it was announced that Vanessa will not be taking part tonight, and has been replaced by Brendyn Hatfield for the week.

He is no stranger to the ITV series and jointed the line-up in 2020 – and is set to return to the ice this evening to take Vanessa’s place.

Who is Brendyn Hatfield?

The 36-year-old sportsman is originally from Seattle in Washington, and joined DOI in 2020.

Brendyn was partnered with ITV newsreader Lucrezia Millarini in his first year, but the pair were the second couple to be eliminated.

Last year, he made it through the semi-final with British rapper Lady Leshurr and finished in fourth place.

S Club 7 singer Rachel Stevens was partnered with Brendyn on this year’s series but left the competition in week three.

Brendyn is married to fellow Dancing on Ice pro skater Jessica Hatfield, who was the reserve dancer for the 2020 series.

The former Strictly Come Dancing star was partnered with Vanessa, however she was forced to out of this weekend’s show after contracting coronavirus.

ITV confirmed that Brendyn will be skating Brendan, which will mark the first same-sex partnership on this year’s show, following Ian ‘H’ Watkins turn on the ice last year with professional skater Matt Evers.

Reacting to the news, Brendan said he was ‘absolutely gutted that Vanessa is unable to skate this weekend.

‘I know she would have put together another fantastic routine,’ he said.

‘However, and with Vanessa’s blessing I’ve been given an amazing opportunity to create something fantastic for Musicals Week with Brendyn.

‘He’s an exceptionally talented skater and I have no doubt we will be able to create something really special for the show! I can’t thank him enough for stepping in.’

Vanessa said that while she is disappointed, she is ‘excited that Brendan gets to skate and challenge himself with an incredible fellow pro and friend in Brendyn’.

‘I have no doubt they will absolutely smash this Sunday. I’m looking forward to returning to the competition to showcase more creative routines!’

Dancing on Ice returns tonight at 6pm on ITV and ITV Hub
