Dannii Minogue has stated that after introducing her groundbreaking new LGBTQ+ dating series, I Kissed A Boy, she has lost fans.
The new BBC Three programme follows a group of single homosexual men who kiss a partner carefully picked for them based on compatibility before they ever speak.
It’s so much more than a ‘gay Love Island,’ and you should watch whether you’re LGBTQ+ or not.
Unfortunately, some of Dannii’s fans couldn’t get their heads around the notion, despite the fact that she was following a genuine homosexual idol in the first place.
To be honest, this show isn’t for them in the first place.
‘I think people have been scared to make a show like this, and I get the feeling sometimes it’s like, “oh, well not everyone wants to see that,” and you know what my answer is? You don’t have to watch,’ Dannii said on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast.
‘There’s plenty of other programming out there. You literally do not have to turn the TV on people.
‘I got a bunch of messages when we had announced that the show was starting, and a bunch of people saying, “I am now unfollowing you, this is just too much,” and I’m thinking all the years of Mardi Gras and Pride and this is too much for you?
‘But I think that there’s something where it’s okay if I’m in sequins and on stage singing but to have a TV show where you’re gonna see two guys kissing and it’s not in the clubs, it’s not something hidden away really does affect some people.
‘And again, I revert to, they don’t have to watch it! And if they wanna unfollow me and say anything like that, you should have unfollowed me a long time ago.’
Dannii has always been an advocate of the LGBTQ+ community, and she has vowed to contribute all revenues from her new song, the soundtrack to the programme, to the LGBTQ+ hotline switchboard since its release.
Speaking about I Kissed A Boy, she told us: ‘This is going to change the daily life paths of many, many people. There’s so much to be learned from the show, for families, friends and allies, and even for people who attack the community. I think they’re attacking something they don’t know about, or they feel like they’ve never met anyone that’s gay.
‘I think the show’s an education of how different all the guys are that are in there, their lifestyles are so different, there’s not one kind of person and I think that’s real credit to the show. People get down to nitty gritty with conversation, I love it.
‘I’m so happy that BBC Three is kicking the door down, putting the show out there because it’s nuts that it’s 2023 and this has never happened before.’
I Kissed A Boy is available to stream on BBC iPlayer now. Listen to the full episode or Reign with Josh Smith here.
