This Morning co-stars Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary have been looking back at their very first meeting, which came when she was a contestant on Big Brother nearly 20 years ago.
The 46-year-old first became known for her stint on the third instalment of the Channel 4 reality series back in 2002, which was presented by Davina McCall and eventually won by Kate Lawler.
Dermot first encountered Alison when he presented Big Brother’s Little Brother and interviewed her after she was voted out of the house. He had no way of knowing he would eventually come to co-present This Morning with her nearly two decades later.
Speaking to OK!, Dermot looked back at their first meeting and said she ‘was always 100% herself’.
‘When we first met via Big Brother, it was such an innocent time and before social media. You did well in the house by being yourself and Alison was always 100% herself,’ he said.
Dermot went on to say: ‘It’s easy to say now that she was always destined to do this, but there’s a world of difference between being yourself in a reality show and being able to host a show. There aren’t that many people who can do that. Alison’s one, Rylan [Clark-Neal] is one… You can count them on one hand really.’

When asked what he had enjoyed so much about hosting This Morning together, Dermot replied: ‘Getting to know the lovely Alison even more. We knew each other and we have always got on very well but we didn’t know each other well, so our chemistry has had to grow and adapt on air.’
The pair are now looking back at six months on This Morning, and Alison is looking forward to socialising with her co-star now restrictions are beginning to lift.
‘We haven’t been to each other’s houses yet – but that is to come soon, I’m sure,’ Alison said. ‘Dermot has already told me that as soon as this is all over, I’m invited to his house to meet his son and he said he’s going to cook for me. I can’t wait – that will be amazing.’

After her stint in the Big Brother house, Alison landed a role as showbiz reporter on This Morning. She teamed up with Dermot on the show as co-presenter in 2020 and the pair replaced Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford on Fridays.
Meanwhile, Dermot recently helped to reassure Alison over her hesitancy on the Covid-19 vaccine during a discussion on This Morning.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
