The stars of Derry Girls have been sharing some behind-the-scenes snaps of life on set as both they and the fans prepare to say goodbye to the show for good.
Last month, creator Lisa McGee broke hearts around the world as she confirmed that series three of the show would be the final one.
Since the announcement, we have all been emotionally readying ourselves to bid farewell to Erin, Michelle, Clare, James, Orla and the brilliant cast of supporting actors.
It’s clear the fans aren’t the only ones who will struggle with saying goodbye: the stars will be letting go of the characters they’ve spent the best part of four years with, as well as the castmates and writers who helped propel them to stardom.
Plus, life on the set of Derry Girls looks like ‘some craic’ – as can be seen by social media posts from the girls themselves.
Jamie Lee O’Donnell, who plays the wild and headstrong Michelle, shared a photograph of herself, Saoirse-Monica Jackson and Louisa Harland hanging out in Erin’s house, looking like they were on their way to a rave (now that’s an episode we’d love to see!).
Before filming began, the actor teased fans with two secret scripts, with everything but her name and the all-important ‘Derry Girls Series 3’ blocked out.
Dylan Llewellyn, who plays James, shared a photograph of himself looking decidedly cooler than his actual character, and said he was ‘back in Ireland baby!’.
Saoirse-Monica, who plays Erin, appeared alongside her character’s dad and grandad – aka Tommy Tiernan and Ian McElhinney – and tagged her location as ‘Home’, which would just melt your heart.
She captioned the post: ‘Ladies & Gentlemen, I present to you Ireland’s Eurovision entry 22.’
Meanwhile Louisa, who plays the spaced-out Orla, shared a photograph of herself and Saoirse-Monica, whose characters are cousins, andbsaid simply ‘Back in the gaf’ – and eagle-eyed fans will recognise the background as Erin’s home.
Nicola Coughlan has been busy filming Bridgerton and appearing as a guest judge in RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, but she has assured fans that she will be back to film her Derry Girls scenes as soon as possible.
So instead of a current on-the-set picture, Nicola recently posted this sweet snap from the set of the previous series of herself and Dylan, who she called ‘Sweet D’, to mark his birthday.
Show creator Lisa, the mastermind behind the entire series, shared a picture most Derry Girls fans will recognise from a famous scene (‘I’m not lying Mammy!’ ‘Swear. Swear on Dolly!’).
However, while most of the photos, videos and cryptic messages brought nothing but excitement for the fans, one of Lisa’s tweets brought us all back to earth again.
She shared a photo of a clapperboard with the words ‘Derry Girls 3’, and wrote: ‘We’ve come a long long way together.
‘Let’s do this one last time!!!’
We’re not crying, you’re crying.
