A new dating programme has arrived in town, but not everything is as it seems.
Deep Fake Love will make Love Island, Love Is Blind, and Married At First Sight appear extremely normal and benign in comparison.
The Spanish programme, which debuted on Netflix this month, employs deepfake technology to test contestants’ trust and “blur the line between reality and fiction.”
Deep fake technology, for those unfamiliar, is an artificial intelligence (AI) technique that modifies imagery. It has recently been used to transform television characters and resurrect deceased performers to perform contemporary songs.
Therefore, the five couples participating in this series will have many concerns regarding what is true… and what is not.
This new reality show will put the couples’ relationships and levels of trust to the test by separating them into Venus and Mars, two separate villas where they will live with a group of singles.
The producers will then use cutting-edge technology to distort reality and display their partners footage and images of their significant others interacting with the singles, likely sowing the seeds of pandemonium.
Partners will observe from the White Room while sitting in the Chair of Truth and determining what is genuine and what is not.
The contestants who correctly identify the most real or artificial scenarios will win €100,000 (£86,488) if their relationships can survive.
It is as bizarre as it sounds.
Twitter users had a great deal to say in response to the bizarre twist.
‘These spanish dating shoes are wild… wym my boyfriend kissed a girl but it was AI???’, one person wrote.
Another commented: ‘What’s scary about #deepfakelove on @Netflix is that this just shows you the power of #AI to misinform, disinform and manipulate the truth.’
‘Surely this isn’t good for the participants’ mental health?!’, said another.

Others branded the creators of the show ‘twisted’, while one even went as far as saying the show causes ’emotional trauma’.
‘How can this be entertainment?I can’t even finish it. For the love of God, this show causes emotional trauma and anxiety to the couples. I thought the other dating/reality shows are toxic enough, this one’s the worst’, they tweeted.
So, would you give Deep Fake Love a go?
