Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: WandaVision post-credits scene could be far more heartbreaking than you think

Warning: major spoilers ahead for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has sparked all sorts of questions about Wanda’s potential future in the MCU, as well as widespread acclaim for Elizabeth Olsen’s return as the Scarlet Witch.

While her performance was as heartbreaking as it was terrifying, as she became consumed by grief and corrupted by the Darkhold (the Book of the Damned), Marvel fans have made an observation about the WandaVision post-credits scene that could make her trajectory in Doctor Strange 2 even more tragic.

In the season finale of the Disney Plus series, Wanda was shown living by herself in a remote cottage, with the final moments of the show depicting her astral projecting while reading the Darkhold.

Just before the screen cut to black, Wanda could hear her children Billy (Julian Hilliard) and Tommy (Jett Klyne) calling for her to help them, presumably from another universe, after she was forced to say goodbye to the twins when her Hex in Westview was disbanded.

In the new Doctor Strange sequel, Wanda sets out on a violent mission to find the boys across the multiverse, where she can be reunited with them and finally be happy.

However, near the end of the film during her fight with America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) – who has the ability to travel across the multiverse – Wanda is transported to another universe, where another version of Billy and Tommy are left terrified by this murderous version of their mother.

They cower behind a stair railing, as they own mother – the Wanda from their universe – is flung across the room, lying helplessly on the floor.

Several fans on Twitter speculated that when Wanda heard her sons shrieking for help at the end of WandaVision, this might have actually been from the moment where she was the one causing them to be terrified.

‘Omg what if the screams of Billy and Tommy “help me!” at the end of WandaVision was them asking other Wanda for help from ours 😭 just adds another layer to it,’ one person wrote.

‘Clever of @MarvelStudios with the ending lines in to #WandVision with Billy and Tommy shouting “help Mum help”. And then hearing those lines in #DoctorStrange when Wanda is fighting and scaring them! That’s poetry right there,’ another remarked.

While this theory is not definite, it definitely would make the WandaVision finale post-credits scene even more heart-wrenching if it turned out to be true.

Elizabeth recently expressed how shocked she was when she found out she was going to be the antagonist of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of MAdness, saying she felt ‘nervous and conflicted’, because WandaVision hadn’t even finished filming yet.

Speaking to Variety, she said: ‘And I was like, “Oh my god, how do I make this all work together?” We got there; I got there.

‘And it became an amazing opportunity to have people be won over by this woman in WandaVision and feel for her, and then, you know, manipulate them into this film, where they get to be on her side and then feel conflicted themselves. So I thought that was a great opportunity.’

WandaVision is available to watch on Disney Plus. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is in cinemas now.
