Russell T Davies, Jodie Whittaker, and Mark Gatiss had a huge Doctor Who reunion, and fans are thrilled about what it may mean.
The showrunner, writer, and actor seemed to take an unplanned photo at the Royal Television Awards last night, which has had fans buzzing.
The trio appeared overjoyed to be in each other’s company in the photo, with Jodie, who was a Leading Actor nomination at the prestigious event for her role in Time, wrapping her arms around the males. Jodie, 41, and Russell, 60, are both smiling broadly as they look into the camera.
Mark, 57, has authored several episodes and acted on screen as a variety of roles, including Professor Lazarus in 2007, Gantok in 2011, and the Captain in 2017.
Jodie was the thirteenth doctor on the BBC series, beginning in 2018, until giving way to Ncuti Gatwa, who debuted in the most current Christmas special. Meanwhile, Russell was the initial showrunner for the Doctor Who reboot from 2005 until 2010, before taking over again in 2023.
He captioned the image with, ‘Come on!’ Fans expressed their wishes for Doctor Who’s future at the RTS Awards, with Jodie, Mark, and me participating.
Some fans envisioned a fictitious scenario in which Jodie and Ncuti, 31, might share the screen. The Tardis is surely large enough!
CarlG2370 typed: ‘Jodie and Ncuti in a multi-Doctor story pretty please! A geek can dream…’
‘Please RTD bring Jodie back, I miss her so much,’ wrote Julespm.71.
Scott Baisden added: ‘Loved her Doctor. I do so hope she shows up in a special down the road.’
Poppy Verse insisted that there needs to be ‘more Mark and Jodie in Who,’ and Get Kyled wanted Russell to begin work on a ‘multi-doctor story with Jodie’.
Others pointed out that next year marked the 20th anniversary of the revival, making this an ideal moment to bring Jodie back into the fold.
Stefans Shenanigans took it a step further, writing a scenario for a 2025 Christmas special. Russell gave the concept the ultimate approval – a like.
In their episode, Daleks attempt to thwart Jesus’ birth, and ‘the only thing that can rescue Christmas forever are the Three Wise Doctors’. They cast Ncuti, Jodie, and David Bradley, the first doctor, in the key parts.
Only time will tell if Russell has taken the comments on board!
Doctor Who is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
